More about World Can't Wait

For more insight into World Can't Wait, the group that organized last week's protest in Greensboro -- resulting in several arrests -- check out this photo gallery on the WCW Web site. It gives you the flavor of their big demonstration in Washington Saturday.

The photos include:

Burning the American flag

and a depiction of George W. Bush decapitated.

Lovely.

They're entitled to express their views. I just don't see how some of their expressions -- or the violence in Greensboro -- advances their cause.

Addendum, Feb. 8: The picture of decapitated Bush has been removed.

Doug,

It looks as though someone rained on their parade. I heard that the crowd was very unimpressive, much less than expected. I heard that it was in the hundreds, not thousands. Any idea of an accurate count?

mrproduce said:

people with the hate mentality that these folks have can only express themselves in violence and call for "peace" at the same time. HOGWASH!

Doug said:

I don't know, Stormy. The Washington Post said "a few thousand" and "considerably less than the 30,000 organizers expected."

Stormy said:

Doug,

A few hundred or a few thousand, that has to be a disappointment to the organizers being on a national stage in Washington. I guess there weren't enough anarchists, socialists or communists (whatever they are) willing to go out on a cold, rainy day. Where were all of those supporters listed on their website? Heck, I haven't seen anything in th emedia about it at all. Was it even covered by the media?

Jim said:

Doug,

Why tell lies with your post? Have you no decency?

I see this flag in question, and it was NOT an american flag. It was the 'corporate flag', a flag that has corporate logoes in place of the stars on the American flag.

See this flag: https://secure.adbusters.org/orders/flag/

Doug, I know you have a strong dislike for things anti-Bush, And thats fine. Hell, attack all you want. But also understand that when you tell half truths it makes you look like a whole liar.

As with everything you write anymore, I investigate thoroughly.

Doug said:

Jim, that is an American flag altered to make the political statement that corporations are running the country. That in itself is a desecration of the flag, and burning it adds further insult.

Jim said:

Doug. C'mon.

I mean really.
The Corporations ARE running the country. You yourself have reported on this with your Jim Black Fixation.

And when asked about Exxon and the massive largest single quarter profit in the history of the world made off the tragedy in the Gulf, President Bush saud what? They earned it.

Ok Doug, if you want to go down on that side, thats fine. But America is something stronger than The Ultra Rich soaking the Less Rich. Or, at least it was at one time.

If you should be insulted about anything it ought to be that your party has been hijacked by a bunch of thugs who are hell bent on global domination.

Doug said:

Well, Jim, as someone who works for a corporation, I'm not quite ready to put the torch to our economic system.

Yes, Exxon made a really big profit last year. So did Google and lots of other corporations. Which ones should we nationalize? All perhaps? Or just the ones that are most successful? Maybe we can drive them all offshore.

How much of a profit is too much in your view, anyway? Are Exxon profits over the last 20 years or so out of line with industry average? Where do these profits go? Who are Exxon stockholders? Are they evil money-grubbing capitalist oppressors, or lots of working people trying to build a retirement portfolio?

mrproduce said:

Hark, I hear the sound of distant drums. No, No, it's the sound of local drums of ignorance beating to the commie tune.

What a bunch of ignorance being spouted by our local commie drum beater.

Doug, why bother with a reply to such ignorance. When ignorance gets to a certain level, as to where our drum beater has fallen it crosses the line into another realm. It is a waste of time and effort to even answer such.

fred said:

just to let you all know it wasnt a real american flag, in place of stars it had corporate logos.

Jim said:

Doug,

Excessive profits in a time of national emergency is raping the population. Legitimate regulations would at least protect the consumer. Lest you paint me as a 'communist drum beater', let me make it clear that you and your cohorts, including MisterProduce rarely use legitimate factoids to support your claims.

What you like to do is reframe to attack the individual.

And that is reprehensible- and does NOT add to fruitful discussion. In your above statement you did the old PT Barnum Trick: Sensationalism.

If it bleeds it leads.

The violence at the local World Cant Wait Demonstration started and ended with an out of control police officer. Why have you not questioned his actions? Your assertion that this was a violent protest is a gross mischaracterization- I could go on and on. For someone who WASNT THERE, you sure claim to know a whole lot about what happened.

I am calling it what it is. BS. You sir, have propagated half-truths and complete propaganda.

Jim said:

Doug,

If this were such a violent demonstration,

then why:

Wasnt there any property damage?
Wasnt there any scratched cars?
Wasnt there any trash cans over turned?
Wasnt there any reports of incidents from local people in downtown?

Ohhh I know Because it WAS NOT VIOLENT.

Doug said:

I was not there, Jim. Were you? Did you observe this out-of-control cop?

Jim said:

Yes Doug I was.

And everything you have asserted is the exact opposite of what I observed. Did your crack reporter mention the POlice car that drove straight at the crowd at 40-45 MPH, barely missing teenagers?

Did your crack reporter tell you about a female teenager getting maced for no reason at all?

All these actions were witnessed by over 100 people present. But, the N&R reporter was not there.

Stormy said:

Doug,

You can now officially ignore Jim as a serious poster. Anyone who uses jimjones@peoplestemple.com as his email address has definitely drunk too much of the WCW koolaid. It doesn't matter what kyou say to this individual, they have a different set of facts in which they believe. No amount of reason will ever affect his mind.

Stormy said:

Doug,

WCW's own website is gloriously stating that "several thousand" protestors attended the protest in Washington. Now that is impressive!
Several thousand people. They'll sure change the course of history in this country. Now, what are they again, anarchists, socialists, communists, or just bored? Jim, where you there too? What # is your picture?

Jim said:

Way to make my point for me stormy.

Cheers!

BOOM BOOM BOOOM BOOOM, AND the drums of ignorance beat louder and louder.

Malcolm said:

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH and the words of ignorance speak louder and louder.

"Drums of ignorance": how ironic! Then you are the person I was playing drums to drown out.

Way to make my point for me stormy.

Cheers!* Jim

Doug,

We took down the photo of one of our people holding a sign depicting the decapiation of President Bush. The Central Committee agreed that it was in bad taste even for a Communist demonstration. Connie Mack Jr. is being expelled from the party and will be moved to a corective labor camp. He is an embarassment to our cause.

Just when you start trusting a communist! They start acting like the Republican leadership in DC.
