Anything for market

I continue to do what I can to promote High Point hospitality during the furniture market.

This time it was free taxi service for a market guy on an urgent mission.

He was running along the 600 block of North Hamilton Street toward downtown and toting a large plastic bag. My wife, friend and I decided this man desperately needed a ride.

He gratefully agreed. Sweating, out of breath and barely able to run another step, he explained his market marathon:

His showroom had run out of toilet paper.

He was elected to dash to the Clover Leaf grocery store on Montlieu Avenue and didn't want to call a cab or wait for a shuttle bus.

As we dropped him off at the showroom, he thanked us and asked where we were from.

Right here in High Point, we said proudly. We're here to serve.

Any way we can ease the market experience for our visitors, we're glad to do it.

I'd like to know who would help a market guy making a toilet paper run in Vegas.

That's a classic, Doug.
And it's another reason there will always be a High Point Market, regardless of how dazzling Las Vegas can be.

Just caught a plane with some folks from Sweden. They had just visited the HP to visit the market. They will never come again. That was their verdict. They went to the info center to try and locate a Canadian furniture manufacturer. They got no help. Nothing on a computer just a thick book to file through. They were not impressed. I guess if they were looking for toilet roll they would of been ok.

I don't know about the thick directory, but it seems to me that buyers coming all the way from Sweden would set up some appointments in advance at the showrooms they want to visit. Most people at market don't seem to have so much trouble finding their way around.
