So, who would be coming from Mexico? If you say Mexicans, you may be guilty of racial profiling

It was bound to happen: complaints of racial profiling along the border with Mexico.

Authorities apparently tend to question people who "look like" they might have sneaked across the river.

Mexicans, perhaps?

Well, who the heck are they supposed to be looking for -- Canadians?

Just the same old junk whine from the appeasement and Politically Correct crowd. They won't be satisfied until you walk into a business and there are signs saying English spoken here.

Your last sentence sums it up well because it sure ain't Canadian's sneaking across our southern boarder.

Americans Doug. They are stopping Americans and asking to see their SS cards.

Doug said:

There's a legitimate national security interest in border areas for authorities to question people who look like they might have crossed the border illegally.

ZhaK said:

And it is certainly legitimate for an official to question how authorities are going about securing the borders. Is the money being spent in an effective way? Are authorities operating within the law? And what is this about asking for SS cards? How about passports or driver's licenses. Is it necessary to establish a federal or nationa id card? SS cards are not intended to establish identity.

Good points, ZhaK. Thanks for writing.

Well, who the heck are they supposed to be looking for -- Canadians?* Doug

What is the problem man? The whole purpose is to stop terrorists at the border. So how many Mexicans look like Muslins from Iran or wherever in the middle east? Did you know that in Red China, Muslins can't fly on State Aircraft? How that for profiling in the 21 st century and promoting rapid bus and moped service?

Thanks, it was tough sneaking over the border. Where do you want the truckload terrorists pot deliever to Doug?

Doug! Make that Medical Pot! I got enough problems with Homeland Security. Don't you think the Mexican Government is really concern about the health of Americans?

Well I would say stopping people because they "look like" the people you are looking for is a good idea. Now it is a fact that all the people who have blown up buildings, cars, buses and themselves have been young mid-Eastern men ( a few gals), but Homeland Security at our airports are so careful not to offend that they are seaching randomly. Like me!! A white, over-weight, of Slavic descent, older lady in a wheeled chair. I laughed my fool head off and started joking with the other passengers in line and the guards. Got a real circus going before they let me go. It was fun and it was stupid. Apparently those Westerners have a whole lot more sense than our highly paid federal government employees!

Doug, Your Sunday commentary about the GTRC was right on. Thank you for being an intelligent voice in the crowd. BrendaBee

Thanks, Brenda.

My 73-year-old mother almost always gets picked out of the line for searches at the airport. Sure she looks Irish, but I don't recall the IRA using grandmothers in its terror campaigns.

Like me!! A white, over-weight, of Slavic descent, older lady in a wheeled chair* Brenda

Brenda! Have the fools try to strip search the wheel chair yet?
