Gibson's Malibu Mel(t)down

OK, it's official now: Mel Gibson is nuts.

Especially when he's tanked up.

The account of his arrest for drunken driving shows a man with serious problems.

Not the least of which is a streak of anti-Semitism.

At the same time, it's possible to overreact. The Anti-Defamation League, while properly critical of Gibson's behavior, is too quick to drag the discussion back to Gibson's 2004 film, "The Passion of the Christ," which it condemned as unfair in its depiction of Jewish hostility to Jesus.

The movie should stand on its own. Gibson's actions Friday don't add anything, in my view, to understandings of the message of the film.

His tirade does tell us that he needs help and will have to work very hard for a long time to rehabilitate his image.

Hollywood has a tendency to forget about the misdeeds of major stars, especially the audiences. If Mel comes out with another potential moneymaker, cash will rule and all will be forgotten, I mean forgiven.

Like father like son.* Jon

The last time I check, His Dad is 84 years old and a Hard Core Catholic living in West Virgina and minding his own business as a senior citizen.

It appears that you have a belief system that all individuals are gulity for being born?

Connie,

Mel's father believes that the Holocaust never occurred. Mel in lock step with his father is anti-semitic.

Shame on the both of them.

Sorry Jon! Mel's Pop never said that. A reporter for one of the mainstream media claim he said that after knocking on Mel's Dad's door a few years back when the movie came out. When the reporter was press for the notes of the so-called interview, he decline to present the notes or the tape recording of the non-existed interview.

Are you aware that Mel said George Bush and the present Republican leadership was destroying this country in a recent interview? Maybe Mel was plaster when he said that? Right?

Connie, I cannot imagine why you want to fight this battle, but Hutton Gibson's views are well-documented and more than a little nuts.

You've been on my blog already, trying to play down the grotesque anti-Semitic remarks made by Mel Gibson. Is this the official position of the Hunter campaign, or just your own opinion?

You know nothing of Mel's Pop and his life. Mel problem as I have said before is a drinking problem from his early days when his Pop move the whole family to down under in the late 60's. You are starting to sound like Abe Foxman in search of another fund raising issue.

Shame on you Ed for trying to draw me into debate about RLH being a jew hater and her campaign. You will note her postion in a recent statement at her site. I do not speak for the campaign, I only express my personal views on some blogs when time allows and simply advise RLH on political tactics.
As I said before on your site about RLH, you can contact Rachel and she will be happy to issue a statement to your questions like she does to all inquiries. Fair enough Ed?

"I am neither a racist nor a bigot. As I stated last year in a statement, I am half Jewish. I have been to Holocaust concentration camps in Germany and museums in the United States. I have seen the horrors the Jews suffered in WWII. This kind of genocide must NEVER happen again, whether it is directed at Jews, or between the Hutus and Tutsis of Africa, or the Serbs, Croats and Bosnians or any other ethnic group. And the same is true for religious intolerance or slavery of the kind we had here in the US, although I am sad to say that it still goes on in other countries. It is wrong and must not be allowed." * RLH

Ed! One other point since you want to play the wikipedia game on this matter. Maybe you should see what wikipedia says about the subject too?
