No bull
I'm glad Ray Ducharme is back in Charlotte. He still has a tough battle to recover from injuries received in Pamplona, Spain, July 7 during the Running of the Bulls.
People are entitled to have fun in their own ways, as far as I'm concerned, but Ducharme's experience should drive home the point that playing with large, angry animals is not a sport for amateurs.
He should have known better. Now, everyone who's aware of his experience does know better.

Most likely if Ray could do it over again, he would probably elect to have gone whale watching instead. Obviously, the whole point and allure of running with the bulls is becuase you can get killed. By cheating death, the runners gain a few moments of immortality, which is more than we of a more pedestrian stripe people will ever have. Of course, the seventy-two straight hours of alcohol consumption prior to the event may play a role also.
Don't know the extent of his injuries, but most people who make a full recovery from something like this, when asked years later, will still say they wouldn't have traded the experience for the world. Go figure.
Some people run with the bulls, some visit strange primitive foreign lands. Go figure.

The most dangerous creature I encountered in Africa was the mosquito.
But then, that's why you dose up with malaria medication.

I'll take my chances on the stretch of I-40 between Guilford College and Sandy Ridge Roads this evening.
