No escape at lunch
The High Point Enterprise (paid subscription required) reports today:
"T. Wingate Andrews, Central, Dudley, Smith and Southwest high schools will maintain closed campuses for lunch ...
"Students at T. Wingate Andrews, Central, Dudley, Smith and Southwest high schools will have to eat in the school’s cafeteria or bring their own lunch."
Seniors at some other schools, including Grimsley, will be allowed to leave campus for lunch, the report adds.
The decisions are school-based.
If I were a senior at one of the closed-lunch schools, I'd be bummed out. Leaving campus for lunch is supposed to be one of the privileges of rank. Has it been abused?
From a logistical point of view, is there room in the school cafeterias for the seniors? I thought many already were overcrowded.

Time for a good old-fashioned walkout.

It's good to see SW High finally in the company they deserve, those high falutin' parents up there getting uppity and thinking they are better than other High Point people. What, did they think, they were Grimsley or NW or something? Good for 'em!!!

This is about the kids, not the parents. What about John's idea of a walkout? That's just the sort of thing he would have organized when he was at Andrews.

Don't ever worry about SW High parents. They are on the case and already have a solution as well as a back-up plan.

I'm thinking about taking my Weenie Cart and parking it over at one of the HP High Schools so they kids can at least go outside and eat.I wonder if they'd be allowed to come out? If not they should all call and order pizzas. It would be funny to have deliver drivers all pulling up!

Seriously, Oscar, that sounds like a good idea.

Doug,
If the school campuses are on lock-down, how will the pizza drivers get access to deliver the pizzas? Isn't that the whole point of closing the campus, to keep non-students out? Or is it just to irritate the senoirs by detaining them unnecessarily?

Stormy: Nonstudents can be kept out even if seniors are allowed to leave for lunch. So your second reason might be closer to the mark.

I have to think this has more to do with Dot's Socialism plan than it does safety. Since some kids don't have cars and/or money to eat lunch away from school, NOBODY CAN!!

Got that clicky white neighborhood again!
