Reports allege that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed personnally killed Daniel Pearl
The murder in 2002 of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl was unspeakably barbaric. Now news reports say the FBI believes Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was the killer.
The same alleged "mastermind" of the 9/11 attacks.
The N.C. A&T engineering grad.
KSM is in U.S. custody at Gitmo. He was held in a secret overseas location for three years after his capture in Pakistan in 2003. He may go on trial next year, for 9/11 crimes and Pearl's savage murder.
The terrorists released a video showing Pearl's beheading. From that, the FBI reportedly was able to identify KSM's hands working the bloody knife. He reportedly confessed under interrogation.
It's sickening that a man trained to build in our university system turned into such a ruthless, sadistic destructive force for evil.

I don't think he "turned into" such a monster; I think the monster was there all along.
It's a grim reminder to the local folk that you never, ever know who you're standing next to in line at the Harris-Teeter or walking beside in Four Season's Mall.
Never forget that the enemy is among us. The want to kill us all and destroy our way of life. We have but two options: Fight for our way of life or surrender.

You may be right, jaycee. But did he already have the intention of becoming a terrorist while he was here in Greensboro studying for a degree in mechanical engineering? Did something here trigger his hatred for the United States and the West? Or did he become radicalized after returning to the Middle East?

Heck, Doug, you or I many have offended him while standing in line at Starbucks waiting on the barrista and started him on the road to 9/11.
Most Muslims I've talked to have held their beliefs since childhood, as have Christians, Jews, etc.
I believe that taking one's belief to a level of violence is more of an evolutional metamorphisis as one perceives what action is necessary to continue their religious activities in a changing world. That's a fancy way of saying that he probably reached a conclusion over a period of time that violent action was necessary. Folks like this don't just "snap" one day; the violent end is the result of a long trip and they feel justified in using it because it's at the direction of their God.
Ideology like this is extremely difficult to counter. There's nothing to negotiate; no border or piece of land to sit down and parcel out; nothing we can offer them that will deter them from their religious duty as they see it.
The only defense is to eliminate the threat.

We all must have offended him, in one of two ways:
1) through our immoral and decadent lifestyles (somehow worse than mass murder or sawing off someone's head); or
2) by not being Muslims.

Exactly, Doug.
We offend Muslims because we don't believe as they do, and they believe that their God tells them to eliminate us so the whole world can be Muslims.
Some take it to heart and crash planes into buildings, some strap explosives to their bodies and kill innocent men, women and children. Some believe it but don't take any action.
I equate it to military service. Some in our country believe in defending it personally and enlist. Some support it but don't feel the desire to confront our enemies hand-to-hand.
Not all Muslims believe it's their mission to kill infidels; some do and pursue that course.
