Have you been there yet? What's your impression? What will it contribute to the life and appeal of downtown Greensboro?

I had a chance to visit this weekend with a Greensboro resident in her mid-80s. She is thrilled with the progress the city is making in efforts like this.

As a former resident of downtown Greensboro, I was happy to hear it. Looking forward to my next visit.

As a swim family still stinging from another defeat I bristle at yet another park. And this one with a tremendously high maintenance package.

In fairness. I hear it is a very nice addition to downtown and I am sure it will be well used. Probaly one of the most used facilities in town. And now we will be adding a greenbelt or walkway around downtown. When is enough?

I must also add that I have more than a mild case of "Downtownitis".

I appreciate those concerns, mick. I guess when it comes to downtown, I get a little Charlotte envy. They're working on more cultural centers, a NASCAR hall of fame, maybe a baseball stadium. When do you have enough? I don't know. It just seems to make Charlotte a more interesting and vibrant city. I think it would have been great for Greensboro if our coliseum had been built downtown way back when.

It gets better (worse)...

Let's not forget the new public/private white water center. Very innovative. Also, even though a news story intimated it would be private (its not) a new competitive pool facility is being planned to replace "old" (ha! they dont know old) facility. Apparently, the old pool and the Adams Mark hotel are/were in the way of progress.

As a further off topic note: God's gift to High Point, Neido Quebain, (no idea as to spelling/nor do I care) no longer allows the use of HPU pool to clubs or high schools, Greensboro College has drained and closed the Hanes basement pool and cut back on use of Reynolds Center by clubs as well. These are all huge losses to the swim community. Swimming, though extremely popular in this town (yes, town)is very much in danger of dying. One major issue with Grimsley, Smith or summertime Lindley and we are cooked! The State Games is to be held here this summer and Lindley is being used if everything does not go exactly right - It may not be pretty.

Downtown appears to me to now be economically viable in most aspects and I think we can back off some public funding.
