Two deaths, two days, one small town
This is a stunning coincidence.
The tiny town of Ahoskie in North Carolina's Hertford County claimed two members of the North Carolina legislature (more than High Point), and both have died since Sunday.
First was Rep. Howard J. Hunter Jr. who served 10 terms in the House. He was 60 years old.
Early today, Sen. Robert Lee Holloman died. He served three terms and was 53.
Both men were re-elected in November. Both were African American.
Is there an explanation that makes sense of this? I'll look forward to more reporting on the strange timing of these deaths.

I wondered about that, too, Doug. And yet, if there's any evidence that this was anything more than sad coincidence, I haven't (yet) seen it.

I can't seriously imagine anything but coincidence, either, although I recall that Catfish Hunter died in Ahoskie at age 53.

Doug:
Rep. Hunter's passing was sad but not a surprise. He was regularly seen toting a personal oxygen canister around the General Assembly building. And I was told today that he continued be a regular smoker.
Sen. Holloman's passing was much less expected by most. He seemed to be the picture of health. Although I was told today by one of his colleagues that he had a pretty bad illness this fall and that hospice care had been called in.
Although I'm not inclined to believe in coincidences, that's all this really seems to be.
