Presidential race: Let's get it over with
With John Edwards holding a rally at Bennett College this afternoon, it seems like a good time to talk about the presidential race.
I'd like to propose a rather dramatic change: Let's move up the election a year.
It's pretty clear most Americans want a new president, and the sooner the better.
Candidates from both parties are running as if it's 2008 already. At this pace, they're going to exhaust themselves, their financial supporters and the voters long before the primaries get here -- and the primaries are earlier than ever.
I say do away with 'em. The Democratics and Republicans should hold old-fashioned nominating conventions this summer, pick their candidates and then go at it until Election Day, Nov. 6, 2007.
By next Jan. 20, we'll have a new president.
This schedule change may not be strictly constitutional, but maybe we can just do it by consensus. Any objections?

Good Grief Doug! You must know something that the rest of the American public does not know. How in the heck can we have George Bush impeached by Jan.20 next year? Or have you thrown in the towel already like Ed has done and heading for the hills.

Who said anything about impeachment? This is early retirement, Bush to Crawford and Cheney to Dubai. Isn't there a buy-out clause in their contracts?

Doug are telling us that martial law is going to take place or is it just good old mob rule democracy in action that will rush in the new age of Orwellism?
I thought I was off the walls, but man you are leaving me behind in this conspiracy theory stuff and the future.
For Gosh sakes and for the Republic tell candiate Edwards to sell the planation and save money in not running today at Bennett.
I am sure those young students at Bennett will not be thrilled to hear their future does not look good.

I did Doug! In fact over 50% of the American people are thinking in that direction now.

Are kidding! Bush back to Crawford? He is headed to Latin America after that visit to Guat yesterday where he free the peons.
Haliburton has a wonderful golden parachute program for it's CEO's. They are dropped into Iran on the first missle strike by our Submarines and than they are the pathfinders for our 3 aircraft carriers holding roman candles for those F-18's to strike those targets of interest.

I agree Bush is very popular in Latin America, but he's going back to Crawford for Cindy Sheehan's sake, since she's already got her campsite near his ranch.

Whew, you're in more of a hurry than I am, Billy.
You've got to let us pundits blow hot air for a few more months, but not past this November.

Connie, indeed you have confused the current President Bush with his father, the conqueror of Panama. The younger Bush is beloved as half of the hit comedy duo Hugo and Jorge. Jorge plays the straight man to the wisecracking Hugo. Bush is always welcome in Caracas.

Sure he is. About like the 50 Russia MIG-27's the Caracas Government bought the other day to keep him away.

Connie, President Chavez has offered to make President Bush the honorary commandante of the new Venezuelan Air National Guard. The best thing is, Jorge won't even have to show up.

What a silly bunch of comments. I'm glad everything is starting eatly. It gives the voters a much better chance to view all options and separate the wheat from the shaft.
I think it's time we quit voting by party line and look for the best person to lead this country.
I've read the profiles and issue lists from most of the candidates Have you?

Dale, I agree with you on both counts: This has been a silly string of comments, and we should choose the best person regardless of party.
