The newspaper's fast break
Talking about overtime, how about our sports department?
I know the Wake Forest-Georgia Tech final didn't make all our editions, but it was in the paper delivered to my driveway in High Point sometime before 5:15 this morning. The game, a double-overtime thriller won by the Deacons, ended at 12:51.
Let me add that up. From the time the game ended to the time I picked up my N&R carrying the story was four hours and 24 minutes. That's what I call a fast break.
Maybe this is home-team boosterism, but I'd say our sports, production and circulation departments did a heckuva job.
And one more point. Newspapers aren't always first with the news anymore. Information moves at the speed of light and is instantly available at your fingertips. But in this case, because I didn't stay up to see the end of the game, I learned the outcome first from my morning paper. Wake's victory was news to me.

Doug, I realize if you told me you may have to kill me, but the seemingly new sign-in process that you were closed down on Wed. for, what new features were added and why was it done?
Was it done so you can track people by computer i.d.'s or something?
p.s. if you don't answer, I'll understand.

It's more user-friendly from my end. I'm not aware we're trying to track people.

So was the results of the Clemson, Florida State game to me. I just learn that Clemson defaulted the game to FSU in the first half on the Sports Blog Fraud Report site a little awhile ago. Which proves you can believe anything on the net.

It is kind of nice not having to type in those numbers and such.
So it wasn't done to increase forensic capabilty?

Not that I know of, Savage.
Connie, Clemson was a terrific 17-0 team that should have quit then.

Yes Doug you are correct! As you know I personally went to Clemson's LittleJohn Arena to padlocked the place after the 17th game. I was later arrested by the campus police of Furman University for breaking and entering a Baptist Church without a map.

If I knew you were so interested, I coulda called you when the game ended. Let me know if I should do that tonight...
Tarheels looked like they were trying to give the game away for a bit - FSU just didn't want to take it.

Kenny, are you having an ACC holiday today? I didn't get to see any of the Heels game. Besides, you take any win you can get at tourney time. I'll probably stay up for the game tonight so no need to call.
Mick, come on!

Doug,
Heaven forbid that I should get off topic, but do you know if there is a N&R blog that is discussing today's editorial regarding school suspensions?
Posted on March 11, 2007 7:32 PM
That editorial is comment-enabled.
I don't plan to initiate a discussion of the edit here because I didn't write it.

You think your vaunted sports department might be able to grab a darn atlas and figure out that UNC and Duke are not the only schools from North Carolina in the tournament? That, in fact, the most academically prestigious college in the state also has a pretty darn good basketball team?
For crying out loud. 29-4. And we still get no respect.

Apologies to Davidson.
Go Wildcats! Beat the Terps!

I think a guest editorial spot is the least that can be extended to Davidson fans.
Posted on March 12, 2007 11:24 AM
This may be the closest you get to that.
