Electoral mischief
Our editorial today about North Carolina's proposed but fortunately unsuccessful electoral vote tinkering.
And commentary by Newsweek's Jonathan Alter about similar shenanigans in California.
None of it has to do with devising a better system of choosing the president. It's all about partisan advantage.

Doug, I think this was perhaps one of the best editorials I have ever seen in the News and Record. I see little sense in either party messing with the constitutional design for partisan advantage. My understanding, if I remember correctly, is that this has already happened in a couple of states. This is a trend that needs to stop.

Thanks, Joe. Nebraska and Maine apportion by congressional district, but they're so small and homogenous that it hasn't made any difference.

Good for you! Now when do you really get editorial constitutional serious by repealing the direct election of Senators that the Bush family slipped though in 1913? Old Senator Prescott was a very busy man in 1913.

So I notice! What in the heck were you and Bubba doing in South Carolina bashing Edwards and promoting Rudy G! This neo-con republican tread needs to stay in Greensboro and at the Hair Saloons.

ED's mischief?
Doug! I think you are missing a big story here with your own co-hort journalist Ed personally destroying the Edwards campaign with below comment. I am totaly convince that Ed is a mole for the Clinton campaign now. Frankly! You and your conservative buddies don't have to do anymore Edwards bashing after watching Ed do it single-handed with his high power political blogging community.
I would not be surprise if the Progressive blogging community hangs him with a mouse at their next up and coming blogging conference in Oct. Clearly Ed is in a political meltdown with the Edwards campaign.

Good editorial. Shame on the Republicans in California for stooping to low Democratic tactics. As the party of moral rectitude and authentic American values, Republicans should hold themselves to a higher standard.

The two major parties are depressingly similar in the means they'll use to acquire and keep power.
