Energy boondoggle?

Ed Cone links to this article in Rolling Stone, "Ethanol Scam: Ethanol Hurts the Environment And Is One of America's Biggest Political Boondoggles."

I hope you read Andy Brod's commentary in our Ideas section Sunday on "The ethanol effect."

Jeff Goodell's lead on the Rolling Stone article says: "The great danger of confronting peak oil and global warming isn't that we will sit on our collective asses and do nothing while civilization collapses, but that we will plunge after 'solutions' that will make our problems even worse."

So, I wonder what other boondoggles will sprout from seeds we're scattering these days.

Wow! So you guys are finally fiquring out that Ethanol was nothing but a government private global corporate scam from 25 years ago. Why do you think the Archer-Danial Corporation monopolize the Ethanol market 20 years ago with the approval of Congress?

I can't wait until Ed starts riding around on his evionrment friendly global cooling Singer Sewing machine with a recycable Pot system.

So, I wonder what other boondoggles will sprout from seeds we're scattering these days.* Doug

First of all, you got to chop down the Military Industrial Complex tree in order to clear up for the new Health-Care boondoggle that the Democrat Presidental candiates will enact once they seize power in 09.

Don't worry! The cost will be nothing but tons of paper and electronic money to cover these new and amazing boondoggles in the 21 st century of political corruption.

Brazil answered their problem of dependence on foreign oil. Turned to sugar cane as the answer by converting sugar into ethanol, and now the country is energy independent and has an ample supply to export ethanol to other countries.

Unfortunately, our Congress won't reduce or eliminate the .54 cents tariff imposed on sugar related exports all as a result of the strength of pressue exerted on Congressmen by the strong sugar as well as corn lobby group.

exports should have read imports. My bad.

Have you any idea how many ethanol engine repair shops are in Brazil? Billions and Brazil has the largest collection of junk ethanol autos on the planet.
