Blust blog isn't Blust's

If you went to www.representativejohnmblust.blogspot.com, you might think John Blust is blogging.

But he's not. The Republican state representative from Greensboro sent a note last night saying it's not his blog, he's got nothing to do with it, and he doesn't know who's behind it.

The blog includes a link to my video interview with Blust and a press release distributed by Marcus Kindley and North Carolinians for Legal Immigration. Kindley, former Republican Party chairman for Guilford County, says he knows nothing about the blog, either.

The material on the blog seems supportive of Blust, so it may be the work of an admirer, "but it seems shady to start something like this under someone else's name," Blust said in his email to me and Mark Binker.

I'd have to agree. Blust is a public figure, so anyone is entitled to produce a blog about him. But this gives the appearance of being a blog by Blust. Maybe that's not the intent, but the administrator should explain what's going on.

The profile for that blog lists among his other blogs Rebpulican Archeologist, where the author identifies himself as the "Secretary of the Beaufort County Republican Men's Club."

The secretary of that club is identified as Frank S. Lee.

Looks like Mr. "Lee" is playing games or not much of a loyal Rebuplican. There is no Franky S. Lee registered to vote in Beaufort County.

Doug said:

Thanks, Roch. I haven't spent a lot of time on this but certainly didn't glean much useful information from the other blogs listed. Some haven't been updated in a couple of years.

There is no Franky S. Lee registered to vote in Beaufort County.*101

Of course not! Mr Lee is really Erik Prince CEO of the Blackwater Group who has begun a new PR stunt to upgrade his image among Republicans for more fascist funding in Iraq. And who really cares whether Mr Blust has anything to add to the failure of the Republican party leadership in this state.

There isn't anything on the blog, other than the name, that indicates that Rep. Blust was posting. For this and other blogs, it's usually a good idea to check the "about me" link.

Doug said:

The "about me" link doesn't give information about "me," or whoever the author is.

Absent other info, I think a lot of readers would assume a blog called representativejohnmblust would be authored by John M. Blust.

Hi, this is Ms. Franky S. Lee, speaking, creator of the www.representativejohnmblust.blogspot.com . I had not had a chance to announce to Rep. Blust or to Marcus Kindley, yet. Marcus has been on business in Arizona about a week and just returned. Both Rep. Blust and Kindley are aware now, and both had a positive reaction. And that’s because it was a darn good idea, and it should have been done long ago. This blog should’ve been running back when the crooked Jim Black and others were trying to cripple him because of his outspoken Conservative views. Blust is no wimp and the Republican Party is lucky to call him its own. I know his constituents are happy to have him because he sure ain’t afraid to speak up in their defense.

I am treasurer of North Carolinians for Legal Immigration PAC, the PAC which Marcus Kindley is chairman of. Marcus Kindley is a dynamic speaker with innovative ideas and we are lucky to have him at the helm of NCFLI .

Rep. John Blust is a true friend of LEGAL IMMIGRATION. He needs to be linked up all over the place. His material is worth a read and I aim for folks to see it.

I am secretary of the Beaufort County Republican Men’s Club, and I am mighty flattered to have been elected to this position since I am from MARTIN COUNTY where I serve as secretary of the Martin County GOP.

Franky

Thanks for clearing that up, Ms. Lee.

This is a GOOD REASON why you (in PUBLIC LIFE) must protect your name by registering it as a domain or at least securing a basic web site with contact information.

Last year, a local television personality name was linked with an adult website. Fortunately, it was "recovered" and now links to the TV station. With domains so cheap and websites as cheap, as little as $30 a year protects your name.

Doug said:

Connie, I've removed a couple of your posts here and will have you blocked if you continue to cross over the line of common decency. This is a forum for reasonable discussion. You've enjoyed plenty of latitude here over the years. Please don't push beyond that.

Doug if you wish to support republican perverts good for you! If you think the wetsuit story is beyond decency and the other republican pervert story, than you are entitled to ban away all day long just like a Police state would. You may delete just like Blackwater or any other Orwellian corporate power would do. It's your site and paper....Go for it! So how does it feel to be a power control freak for the Republicans? And don't blame me being the bad undecency sinner here since I am not into wet suits.

Congrats on taking a step in the right direction with this blog to support John Blust.
Republicans need to embrace more of the modern ways of communication, in order to build this party and communicate it's message with younger people ( and youthful older folks too!)

John Blust is a true North Carolina patriot, and a great American. I remember when I first visited the Legislature years ago, how impressed I was with the mental acumen and no non sense style of Rep. Blust. He has always reminded me of an statesman of years past, who would have been more at ease in the House of Burgess with Patrick Henry.

The modern world needs people like that.

Do I hear whispers of John Blust for President 2016

Just when I was about to post a comment saying something to the effect of:

Uh, did anyone else notice that "***MS.*** Franky S. Lee" is ineligible to be "secretary of the Beaufort County Republican ***MEN's*** Club"...

I read a little further...maybe something that Mr./Mrs./Miss/Ms. Connie Mack Jr. should do in the future...frankly, "Franky", try proofreading.

Maria Barton said:

Am I the only person who still posts blog comments under the same name as my voter registration card reads?

Maria Barton said:

My apologies to the SBoE for having just opened myself up to election fraud.

That is exactly why we should have retinal scans and/or finger-printing at every ballot box.

Who knows how many people in NC have their picture on MY drivers license? Anyone who shows up at the DMV with a hand-written family bible attestment to my birth can get one.

Thanks to the NCGA for the fact that if you can sign my name and do any of the following, you can vote as "Maria Barton":

1) show up at the Old Guilford County Courthouse to register,

2) find any early voting booth in this county,

3) go to Cornerstone Baptist Church on Election Day.

Just try it, if you dare.

Why don't you required a miro-chip in the brain, since you are into Big Brother worship? You people are really scary with this police state mentality and the mark of the Beast religious control.

Dave Ribar said:

Doug:

I should have been more explicit in my post. If you can't confirm the name, you shouldn't trust the site (even if a name is given, some skepticism should be reserved). A site that was actually administered by Rep. Blust or his staff would have almost certainly had contact information and other identifiers.

Ms.(?) Lee's announcement is breathtaking. She defends creating a misleading site (one that apparently even Rep. Blust didn't know about) because of Jim Black? The site was created in May of this year--long after Black had passed from the political scene.

Flip Wilson was famous for saying "the devil made me do it." I guess that we have a new "devil" that will explain all further transgressions in NC politics. Posts and information like this sure don't give a strong indication that a Republican administration in NC would be any more ethical than those rascal Democrats.

Doug said:

I'm still not sure I know who the person is who's running the Blust blog or what she plans to do with it.

It doesn't tell me anything about the potential Republican leadership of this state, anymore than Bluenc fairly characterizes Democratic leaders.

Betsy Muse said:

Wow, Doug. Were you just waiting for this thread to offer you an opportunity to pull a criticism of BlueNC out of your fanny?

Linda Cloud said:

I'm just not seeing what BlueNC has to do with any of this. I see some folks admitting to voter fraud, and others acting fairly paranoid about who is posting on the internet. But BlueNC? What on earth did we have to do with that?

Doug said:

Criticism? Someone is awfully thin-skinned to be in the political blog game.

Betsy Muse said:

No...not at all thin-skinned. Just very puzzled. It seems like your comment came out of thin air. When criticism is warranted I'll take my lumps. I know I earn them. I sometimes even work hard for them.

I would compare your comment to this scenario: I write a blog post about Richard Moore. Then in the comment section...for no apparent reason....I write, "Have you read the mess Doug Clark tries to pass off as journalism?"

Doug said:

Go for it. I get a lot of that.

Doug said:

But, to explain: My comment was in response to Dave Ribar's quip that these Republican bloggers weren't filling him with confidence that a Republican administration in Raleigh would be very ethical. I merely stated my opinion that the Republican bloggers are no more characteristic of potential Republican leaders than Bluenc is characteristic of Democratic leaders currently in office.

I was assuming that Mike Easley, Bev Purdue and other Dem leaders are not regular participants in the discussions on Bluenc.

If you want to take that as criticism of Bluenc, be my guest.

Betsy Muse said:

Mike and Bev don't stop by, but Rep. Grier Martin, Congressman Brad Miller, Dan Besse and Pat Smathers stop by fairly frequently as do candidates Ed Ridpath, Marshall Adame and Larry Kissell. Jim Neal (will retire Dole in 2008) stopped by the other day as well. I would say that BlueNC is closer to being characteristic of some of our Dem leaders than the Blust fan site is of Republican leaders. You don't have to agree, but then you would be wrong. :)

Thanks for the explanation. At least I see where you were trying to go with it.

I was assuming that Mike Easley, Bev Purdue and other Dem leaders are not regular participants in the discussions on Bluenc.* Doug

True! So far you have two Democrats and "others" as a non-participant head count at BlueNC. What makes you think they don't read the site like everybody else in this state does? Heck you have just made it and a hot item right now. So don't let it go to your head.

Oh come on Marie! You wouldn't know the difference between a Republican Micheal Vick presidental dogfight with their candiates [except Ron Paul] all wanting to torture, gut the constitution, nuke Iran, Bankrupt this nation, screw your children future forever, and finally make it into a Republican police state Orwellian Paradise with no civil liberties.

I have no idea why you think I am Rachel Lea Hunter! Mostly likely a continue myth from the Republican leadership in this state and the legal establishment. I can assure you that Ms Hunter does not blog since she has own her political site and not into rumors and personal insults from folks who have tough time trying to understand that blogs are not reality.

Of course you are! Why would you lose it emotional with those large caps?

I hope not! He would be very depress like the constitutional founders of this country if they could see the mess that it is in cause by your republican leadership in the very short period of 7 years. I usually don't blow my horn on the net except when some clown attacks my family, so enjoy and remember not all that appears to be the truth is not the truth.

Clemson great parking-ticket scandal Clemson great parking-ticket scandal By Gene Owens

Connie Mack Berry Jr. rolled up some impressive statistics in football and basketball at Clemson University between 1957 and 1960, but the statistic that dwarfs them all is the one that denied him a degree from Clemson: a bill for $43,078.78 in campus parking tickets. Berry, now living in Carey, N. C., says the parking-ticket scandal is only one source of his notoriety on the Clemson campus. Another involves his exit from a classroom via a third-floor window. He did it to test his Yankee psychiatry professor theory that pain was all in the head, and you could jump out the window and land without experiencing pain if you just put it out of your mind. Berry went out the window, and moments later his classmates saw him lying on the ground. He slowly got up and hollered, "It worked!" It worked because he had secretly tied a rope inside the window and rappelled to the ground. But he got A's for the rest of the course. Connie Mack Berry Jr. assures me that all this is true, and I have to believe him. He bears a name that stands for all that's good and wholesome about athletics a name borne by two hall-of-famers who never heard of steroids. One is Cornelius McGillicuddy, the original Connie Mack, owner and one-time playing manager for the Philadelphia Athletics. Mack met Connie's grandfather, William Clinton Berry, during the 1920s, while the A's were barnstorming through the South. Berry was a one-armed third baseman who also managed a semi-pro mill team in South Carolina. He had stuck one arm into a cotton gin and pulled out a stump. He fielded by catching the ball in his glove, tossing glove and ball into the air, then snatching the ball with his bare hand. His admired Connie Mack, and named his son after him. Connie Mack Berry became an athletic standout at North Carolina State and later played on championship teams in three professional sports: with baseball's Chicago Cubs, the National Football League's Chicago Bears, and the National Basketball Association's Oshkosh All Stars. He has been inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. Connie Mack Berry Jr., played end on offense and defense for the> upstart Clemson Tiger football team that lost 7-6 to the national champions, Louisiana State University, in the 1959 Sugar Bowl. He was a team player on and off the field, which partly accounts for his huge parking-ticket debt. As he tells it, his mother bought him a 1954 Chevrolet to drive off to college in 1957. Clemson was then an all-male institution, and the closest source of coeds was a nursing school in Anderson, some 15 miles away. A car was essential, and Clemson's athletes treated Connie's like community property."Everybody that played sports used it 24/7," Berry said. Sometimes Connie wouldn't see it for weeks at a time. The borrowers usually would come to him for keys. But if they couldn't find him, they would jimmy their way in and hot wire the ignition. They parked wherever they wished on campus, often in spaces reserved for faculty and staff. "It would always be parked in somebody's spot," Connie said. "All they could do was keep ticketing it." And, of course, nobody paid the tickets. When Connie Mack was ready to receive his degree, Dean of Students Walter T. Cox called him into a conference with R. C. Edwards, then the president of Clemson. They told him he would have to pay the four years's worth of parking fines before he could graduate. Connie told them he didn't have $43,078.78 on him and didn't know when he could get it.. "I reminded them that Coach Howard owed me a great deal of funds for under-the-table services during my time at Clemson, and that we could simply make it an in-kind trade and forget the whole problem," said Berry. This invocation of the name of Frank Howard “ the Bear Bryant of Clemson football “ cut no ice with the academicians. No pay, no degree, they insisted. On graduation day, Connie was handed a rolled-up piece of paper that said "Degree will be given upon full payment in cashier's check" Connie eventually landed in Marietta, Ga., where he learned that if you burned photographic negatives, the film would go up in smoke but the silver in the emulsion would remain, and you could sell it. That led him into the precious metals business, which became his main source of income. He hasn't quit trying for that Clemson degree, though. "My cousin who is the lawyer for all of Clemson sports problems said the other day that they would settle the affair for 50 cents on the dollar," Connie told me. That, he speculated, would come to a net total of $1.95 million, allowing for compounded interest and inflation. Connie said he asked whether the university would accept a personal check on a bank in Panama. He hasn't heard back. Connie Mack Berry Jr. is married to Rachel Lee Hunter, who ran a strong race for associate justice on the North Carolina state Supreme Court. He says she's contemplating a race for chief justice in 2006 so she can be the boss of the candidate who defeated her. Unfortunately, her jurisdiction won't extend to Clemson University, which lies safely south of the North Carolina state line. But who wants a degree when it's so much fun to owe $1.9 million?
