Hillary misses an opportunity
Hillary Clinton blundered into trouble at a Democratic presidential candidates' debate last night.
Does she support New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's proposal to give illegal immigrants special driver's licenses?
Yes, she said. No, she said. It's the federal government's fault, she said.
Oh, my. Her opponents pounced.
Chris Dodd disagreed with Yes.
Barack Obama disagreed with No.
John Edwards said she ought to make up her mind, although if he's made up his mind on that one, he didn't say.
Clinton probably can shrug this off. But she should have blasted the New York plan. She can rightfully criticize the Bush administration for failing to get a handle on illegal immigration, but New York's plan actively undercuts the feds by legitimizing people who are here in violation of federal law.
She should have proposed putting an exit in New York driver's license offices leading straight to a federal immigration office. Everyone holding a shiny new illegal immigrant card could proceed directly to a deportation hearing.
That might have won her a few votes.

Sorted reminded me of the Movie " History of the World, Part 2" Mel Brooks infamous movie of history where the French King instructs the court dupes and naive fools to pile on the Queen on a giant Chess Board.
I can see the headlines in the National Inquire today?
" MASSIVE PRESIDENTIAL GANG BANG IN PHILLY! HAILLARY VICTIM, HUSBAND SAYS HOW DARE YOU!"

Thanks, Doug. I completely agree with your comments. The idea that illegal immigrants should receive valid drivers licenses is a slap in the face to every law-abiding citizen, including immigrants who came to this country legally.
CNN journalist Lou Dobbs has made Gov. Spitzer's plan a national issue - and rightfully so. This is just a terrible idea.

Doug:
Hillary got caught trying to be too cute on this issue saying that "it made sense" in one forum and then saying that she didn't necessarily support the plan in another. It's the sort of stumble that a candidate can recover from (most of her opponents have stumbled much worse). However, it does open the door a crack for some of the others.
FactCheck.org lists several other stumbles and evasions from Hillary's performance last night (http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/hillarys_high-stepping.html ).

Watching the Democrat candiates stumbled is like watching a bar closing at 3 AM! However, I am impress that little Dennis has finally confirmed which most Americans has known for 67 years. Those UFO's are for real and there is life somewhere out in space, reguardless what Hillary says about Aliens in New York.

Well, it appears that the Hillary campaign has had a summit meeting today, and they have announced that HIllary does, indeed, support Spitzer's plan to give illegals driver's licenses. You had to know all along that Hillary was going to support the plan, but she was trying to be cute and be on both sides of the issue at this point. It's not a bad strategy if you can get away with it. Why take a firm position on such an issue now that you might have to defend later on. As it is, she now has her position, and hopes that no one remembers it.

Yes the woman that can not keep her man home, endorsed giving illegals premits. Now they can buy guns, and register to vote.
