Another terrible loss for High Point's medical community

The High Point medical community has suffered another blow with yesterday's death of ophthalmologist Dr. James Errico.

Errico was a gem of a man, gentle, genial, generous. He had a winsome smile and warm greeting, "Good to see you, my friend."

He was my eye doctor, but I really got to know him and enjoy his company when we both belonged to a men's book club years ago.

I don't have full accounts about his death except it was completely unexpected, occurring from complications after surgery. Errico was 68 and still practicing.

It's the second shocking death in the High Point medical community in less than two weeks. Dr. David Ross, an orthopedic surgeon, was killed in an auto accident Dec. 27.

This is very sad news. My prayers go to the Errico family.

Our much beloved Dr. Errico was so many things to so many people. He was one of the kindest and warmest people I've ever known. He treated all of his employees with respect and love and we all are heartbroken to lose him. He's beyond our sight and touch now but he lives on in the hearts and memories of those that knew and loved him. I count myself a truly fortunate person to have had the honor to know this wonderful man.

Thanks, Amy, for those very moving words. This must be devastating at his office.

Dr. Errico was our family opthamologist. He has always been there for myself, husband & now grown sons.
Several years ago my husband came in from work with an infected eye. He was a truck driver, his schedule never known, Through the night my husbavd suffered with pain and was supposed to be back at work by 8 am.
He called Dr. Errico early dawn..he offered to meet him as soon as he could get there. The roads were a little icey and more was falling. End of story..they met in the parking lot at the same time.
He also worked diligently with my Dad,, John D. Clodfelter. Dad, a WW11 vet had only one eye and Dr. Errico knew how worried he was over loosing his site. His soft gentle words of encouragement soothed and comforted many in my family.
He will be missed, but remembered by all who knew him.
