Durham police keep shooting criminal suspects from Greensboro

For the second time in less than two months, a Greensboro resident has been shot and killed by police in Durham.

What's going on with that?

The circumstances are strangely similar.

We reported the first incident Nov. 8:

"The incident started about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday when undercover officers saw an attempted armed robbery near Holloway Street and Guthrie Avenue in Durham, according to a news release. The officers followed the vehicle -- a 2007 Jeep Commander -- and called for backup.

"Patrol officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop. Officers chased the vehicle for about 10 minutes in eastern Durham before getting on Holloway Street, where one of the Jeep's tires blew out. The Jeep turned on to Oakwood Avenue and then began going the wrong way on Liberty Street.

"The Jeep stopped on Liberty Street by the Durham County Library and three of the four male occupants jumped out and ran, according to police. One of the teens ran to the front of the Jeep and then turned and pointed a gun toward officers, police stated in a news release.

"Durham Police Officer B.D. Opitz fired at the person, striking him in the torso. The teen, Samuel Reyes Uscanga, 16, of 2814 Kilbourne Drive in Greensboro, died at Duke University Hospital."

And today's story:

"Durham police shot a Greensboro man who they say drove into a police officer while fleeing after an armed robbery.

"Raul Riva Aldamo, 34, died from the gunshot wound on Saturday, police said Wednesday in a news release. Officers shot at the car Aldamo was driving after it struck an officer responding to an armed break-in, police said."

Are we exporting our crime problems to Durham, which has enough of its own? I doubt police over there appreciate the extra work.

Your headline is really good news - it's always good to get shut of criminal types - but even so, my wife has concerns about shopping in Greensboro, especially at Four Seasons - and now we read that those who are sworn to protect and serve us (GPD) are charged with criminal behavior - I can't blame my wife and her girlfriends for wanting to shop and visit elsewhere - just too many problems in Greensboro -

She may want to avoid Durham.

Well, perhaps we should send more of our criminals to Durham. It sounds like they are dealing with them pretty effectively.

Maybe G-boro is acting more like a home-base staging area where criminals can rest in relative safety before taking it on the road.

Could The Boro be the new criminal Parris Island?

During Al Capone's day he often lived in towns where he spent tons of money and broke few if any laws. While the local sheriffs and police knew he was an outlaw wanted by various states and the Feds these "law enforcement officers" chose to allow him to come and go as he pleased. Of course all those towns eventually came under Capone's iron-fisted rule just like Greensboro is falling to our modern day Gangsta's.

Maybe Lt. Hinson could be put on a special assignment over in Durham or better yet the City Manager could find a speaking engagement over there.

I guess G'boro doesn't have what it takes to keep our criminals here. Maybe because they're too well known to be around "their" circles here?

Or maybe, they just "ain't gangsta enough?!!"
Come on, they probably met their own match, and thought they were at the "OK Corral." I guess Durham is the new community, for outlaws. "OK CORRAL DURHAM."

Shoot'um up, tie'um up, RAWHIDE!

Where's Nifong when you "really" need him? He would find everything and then some, to convict those criminals.

Keep it Durham, but out of the Duke Campus.
I know security will be tight around Duke Campus, from now on.

a friend of mine was randomly shot from a stray bullet just off in greensboro just a few nights ago and i still haven't seen any coverage on either the local news or papers. either it has been buried in the back of the papers or wasn't deemed fit for print. why is it, that you have to be either a convenience store clerk, police officer, or gang member to be considered a victim anymore? since when have shootings become so common in this town that the media has had to start deciding which ones are worthy of coverage, and which ones are not newsworthy?

Good questions. It seems like we report a shooting every day. Maybe some slip through the net. It's terribly when this extreme violence becomes an everyday thing, part of the background noise of the city.
