Running against Hillary

No question Republicans would rather run against Hillary Clinton than Barack Obama.

So much so that Mitt Romney has already started. He's got a TV ad, which I saw last night, that contrasts his experience running things -- businesses, a state government, the Olympics -- with Clinton's lack of same.

It's very effective. We'll see how much it helps him today.

Of course, it's risky for Republicans to run against Hillary so soon. They could end up helping Obama win the Democratic nomination, which is exactly what they don't want.

It has become increasingly common for politicians of all ranks to begin running against their presumed General Election challenger in the primary. All the Dems running for U.S. Senate here are targeting Elizabeth Dole in their rehtoric, for example. I got more hate mail about Edwards from Republicans than I did from Democratic supporters of the folks he was running in a primary against.

I guess it makes sense in terms of political tactics. But it makes me question whether the candidates have anything to say FOR themselves if they (or their supporters) spend so much time saying thing AGAINST a person who is not even officially their oppoent yet.

Running against Dole would be the only thing someone like Jim Neal could do at this point, in my opinion. The public doesn't know who he is and wouldn't know what he's running for if he didn't make clear he's running against Dole. Kay Hagan, on the other hand, could stress her record in Raleigh and establish her own credentials.

Romney's ad, while criticizing Clinton, does make good points about his accomplishments.

Are you kidding me? Hillary will never, ever take the second spot on the ticket. She would rather complete her term in the Senate.

Who said that she would be VP? But suppose the impossible happens and Hillary cannot control the electrion voting machines and Obama slips in. Now what? If you are Hillary and the Clintons and you have spent your whole legal life to become president and find out that you must wait another 8 years for you chance which would make you a 68 year old fat grandmother to impress the American voters in 2016. What would you do? It's simple, you do a LBJ to heal the party and save the day for unity in America...

Of course! The 2nd part of the LBJ VP plan has it's faults.....Don't expect to see Hillary in the same motorcade with President Obama in downtown Dallas in the near future. Now if you think that is bad news, wait until Hillary appoints her husband VP?
