Hagan pitches ... for cash
I also heard from Kay Hagan's campaign today, via email. I wish it brought news, not a fundraising appeal.
(Note to candidates of all persuasions: I don't make political contributions.)*
Please follow the jump if you want to read her pitch ...
When North Carolinians send teams to the Big Dance, we have high expectations. We're loyal, but we also expect results.
In the Big Dance up in Washington, DC we've been let down over the past five years. Back in 2002, Elizabeth Dole told us that all of her years navigating the Washington bureaucracy would make her an effective leader in the Senate. But instead of leading, she has followed -- and of all the people she could have chosen to follow, she chose George W. Bush. Elizabeth Dole has voted with President Bush 92% of the time.
When we send someone to Washington, DC to represent us, we expect them to remember who elected them, who they're working for, and what they've been sent there to do. Instead, in Elizabeth Dole we're stuck with a U.S. Senator who is ranked 93rd out of 100 senators in terms of effectiveness. She's been essentially warming the bench for the last five years, and North Carolina is paying the price.
Your contribution today brings North Carolina one step closer to putting a proven leader on our team in Washington.
In basketball or politics, 93rd place may be good enough for Kansas or Georgetown, but in North Carolina, we expect better. I'm going to Washington to do the same thing I've done in Raleigh: Get results for North Carolina.
As Senate Appropriations Co-Chair in Raleigh, I've consistently delivered balanced budgets while increasing funding for core priorities like education and children's health care. North Carolina needs that kind of leadership in Washington.
Monday, March 31 is the fund raising deadline for the first quarter of 2008. It is important that we have the means necessary to run an aggressive campaign against Elizabeth Dole and her weak record in Washington. Please help us reach our goal of $200,000 on our Act Blue contribution page by then -- it is easy, it is secure, and it takes just a few minutes.
Your contribution today brings North Carolina one step closer to putting a proven leader on our team in Washington.
Yours truly,
Kay Hagan

* Full disclosure: I once gave $25 to the campaign of U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va. It was in 1983 or 1984 when I lived in Fairfax County, Va., and commuted into Washington. I liked his work on transit issues. I see he's still at it.

Same here - and I deleted it. I don't want to hear from my representatives (or wannabe's) only when they want money.

I also received the email and I was not impressed that most of the points of the campaign are attacks against our current Senator. I saw only one paragraph--one sentence really,--that Hagan said what SHE would do for NC. Negative campaigns don't impress me one bit, especially when they are asking for money.
That email was truly disappointing. I've always liked Kay and enjoyed reading her emails. I read and deleted this one. Hopefully this isn't how she'll run the entire campaign because I like Dole too, and so far she's not attacking anyone.

I like receiving Kay's legislative emails, but I don't think because I've asked to receive those that I should get the fundraising appeals for her campaign. But I would like to receive news about her campaign.
I'll give her a pass for going after Dole. This is politics, and it's fair to criticize the incumbent's record. Hagan isn't making personal attacks.

She also needs to make clear to voters that she's running for the U.S. Senate seat held by Dole and not for the same state Senate seat she's had for the past 10 years.

Btw, I never signed up for Hagan's emails so I'm really not sure why I get them. I think I emailed her once and then they must just add you to her list. Anyway, she doesn't get a pass with me. She's attacking. And in my opinion, it doesn't need to be personal attacks to be distasteful. Sure it's politics but as a voter, I'd like to hear what she can/will do for her constituents, not what she feels the current official is doing wrong. It comes across much better to me to hear the candidate say, "I'll do this" instead of "the current is doing it wrong". Also, I think it's obvious she's running for Dole's seat by the very nature of the way she's chosen to campaign.
Now, trying to picture Bruce Davis in Hagan's seat is still causing me some grief...

No doubt about that! In fact you were all over our site this morning checking things about me. How do you like the big Blog Ad for Mr Neal on our site? We know you are a little wishy on the patriot act and the Police state in our society, but our superior tracking service proves that not only big brother is watching but us good guys are watching you. Have a nice day and be sure to fired that campaign internet worker for being nosey!

Bruce Davis is challenging Katie Dorsett for her seat. Don Vaughan and Joe Wilson are competing for Hagan's seat.

Thanks for the clarification.
