They shoulda been in school
Give kids time off from school and look what happens.
They need to be back in class ... where their teachers can deal with them.

Glad you find it so amusing, Doug.
Personally, I'm not sure an elderly man getting beaten is particularly funny, but maybe I just don't have a sense of humor.

Well clearly the "parents" aren't dealing with them.
Somehow, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that these pisspots don't even spend 1/2 the time in school that they should.
Kids are getting worse and worse every year when it comes to crap like this - and it's going to take some radical changes in society to put an end to it. This isn't a prank or a stupid stunt - it's not even a mistake. These kids have no regard for the sanctity of human life - they have no regard for what is right or wrong - and they have no fear of consequences.
Guilford County - nay - EVERY county needs a 'Joe Arpaio' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Arpaio

jaycee, I apologize for giving you the impression I'm making light of a brutal beating of an elderly man. Not my intention. I was trying to use sarcasm to point out the kinds of kids our schools have to deal with - until the legal system locks them up.
TwoCents, some of the Arizona sheriff's methods too closely resemble those of the ousted Davidson County sheriff Gerald Hege. But, unlike Hege, this guy seems to have implemented a lot of good programs. Results count.

WGHP had no problems plastering the names and faces of the kids on TV last night. Unfortunately, I doubt school being out had anything to do with the attack. They were, according to the interview aired by WGHP, just plain mean. I got the impression that the victim's family might even seek revenge from their tone.

I said that because the attack occurred Monday afternoon when they MIGHT have been in school.

Sheriff Barnes plans on having a bigger place for them to stay.

Thanks, Erik.
I still feel guilt about a young man I worked with through CIS in High Point. He was a nice kid with potential. While he got a lot of help and support from the CIS program, he had so many environmental disadvantages -- abandoned by both parents at an early age, raised by a hardworking, loving but tired grandmother, many bad influences in a drug-infested neighborhood -- that he simply couldn't stay out of trouble. Fortunately, not to the point of really hurting anyone but himself. Ultimately, everyone failed him. I never really could blame him, even though he was old enough to take responsibility for his actions, because he was like someone who was thrown into strong currents without having been taught to swim. How are we going to reach these kids?
