Tar Heel mascot down and out
Sad news for Carolina sports fans today ...
And it has nothing to do with which Tar Heel basketball stars might or might not leave early for the NBA.
The scoop from our editorialist Elma Sabo:
"Rob Hogan of Hogan's Magnolia View Farm outside Carrboro said that UNC's former mascot, Rameses XVII, died about 10 a.m. Thursday at his farm from complications resulting from the head-butting he received from son Pablo earlier this month. The area around where the ram had lost a horn got infected. The Hogans buried the ram on their farm Thursday night. Pablo, who will become known as Rameses XVIII, will take over his father's mascot duties."
Here's the previously reported story of R17's downfall.
Well, maybe the football team needed a new mascot anyway. Sure can't say R17 inspired many victories at Kenan Stadium.

Do you really believe that story by Mr Hogan?Like all sports political struggles, the Son knocks off the King and takes the field as a Candiate of Change! No doubt a cover up investigation will take place and put to rest the rumors that Rameses XVII death was a inside job by Duke University.

It's nature's way: weeding out the old and infirm. If we had had this new, more cutthroat Ramses as a mascot last year, I'm guessing a bowl game and a national championship.
