I wish Kay Hagan would quit mocking Elizabeth Dole with this ruby slippers shtick. She used it again at last night's Big Dem Dinner in Raleigh, Mark reported:
"I want to give Miss Liddy Dole a pair of ruby-red slippers, and let her click her heels three times, and go home to Kansas with Bob," Hagan told the audience.
Maybe the partisan crowd enjoyed the gag, but I think it can backfire on Hagan.
First, Dole's "home" isn't Kansas. She married a Kansan, but they've lived in Washington throughout their 33-year marriage.
More critically, it's a terrible mistake to portray Dole as sweet, kind Dorothy.
You know who was always going after Dorothy and her ruby slippers ...
Hagan better be careful she doesn't cast herself as the Wicked Witch candidate.
She'll find her chances of victory melting, melting ...

No doubt Senatorial Candiate Hagan is confuse about rudy-red slippers in this day and time as a symbol of evil in political circles. Surely, she should be aware of the recent death of the DC Madame and who wears rudy-red slippers in Washington.

Liddy Dole is more like the wicked witch of the east than Dorothy. maybe someone will drop a house on her and give the citizens of NC a break

Liddy Dole is no less an authentic NC Senator than Hillary Clinton is an authentic NY Senator. At least Dole was born in NC. Hillary was not born in NY, nor ever lived there.

North Carolina voters dealt with the issue of Dole's residency six years ago. They considered her North Carolinian enough. They certainly didn't then, and don't now, think of her as being from Kansas.
The issue this year will be how well she represented North Carolina's interests in the Senate. I expect there will be a robust debate about that.
