Business as usual in Washington

This brazen partisanship in Bush Justice Department hiring is exactly the sort of Washington politics-as-usual, or worse, that Barack Obama promises to snuff out when he's president. More power to him. In the meantime, some heads should roll.

But then, the Democrats in Congress need some lessons, too. Take House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, for example. He's hosting a fundraiser today for a Democratic congresswoman from California who loaned her campaign $77,500 while she owed thousands in taxes and defaulted on a mortgage. She is the subject of calls for an ethics investigation.

Oh, and I love his statement comparing Laura Richardson to "literally millions of people in America who have defaulted on mortgages." Yeah, but how many were lending $77,500 to their political campaigns while failing to make mortgage payments?

By the way: Who shows up at Capitol fundraisers hosted by big dogs like Hoyer? Lobbyists, of course.
