Read up on Linda Brady
I met Linda Brady, the new UNCG chancellor, today and attended her local introduction/press conference. I've written a Sunday editorial and, if time permits, may add some observations here tomorrow.
In the meantime, there's plenty of interesting reading material by and about her on the Web.
Such as: "Educating International Security Practitioners: Preparing to Face the Demands of the 21st Century International Security Environment," which she co-authord.
Or a description of her book, "NATO in the 80s/Challenges and Responses."
Another book: "Politics of Negotiation: America's Dealings With Allies, Adversaries, and Friends"
Another: "Public Administration for the Twenty-First Century"
Here's one I think is by a different Linda Brady, or at least the folks at UNCG should hope so:
"Discovering Your Soul Mission: How to Use Karmic Astrology to Create the Life You Want"
Back to the real Linda Brady:
This is an interesting interview she did a couple of years ago in Oregon. Check out her comments about women's leadership styles.

"Here's a story 'bout a girl named Brady..."
Sorry, Doug. I just couldn't resist!

PS-At least Bowles & the BOG kept that North Carolina connection. I think she's a great choice.

Yes, her N.C. State experience was a plus.
Of course -- and I'll repeat a gripe here -- the UNC system's secret search process does leave you guessing. Were there other candidates who currently work in the UNC system or even at UNCG? We don't know.
Also, the BOG essentially has no role other than rubber-stamping Bowles' recommendation. The BOG isn't told who the other candidates are.
But Bowles was given only two candidates to choose between. Normally it's three. The search committee obviously wanted to limit his choices.
I think that's better. Why take the chance that Bowles could pick the committee's third choice? In this case, at worst, he would go with the second choice.
All that said, Brady obviously was a very strong candidate (please see my newer post).

Karmic astology? Hmmm....that's interesting. Yeah...School chancellor, huh? Okay...
Although, who am I kidding? Like I have a clue. I guess when dealing with kids, whatever works. Maybe this is what I've been doing wrong.
I was in the right place, but it must have been the wrong time.
My head was in the right place, but I met up with the wrong Dot.
I was in the right place, but it must have been the wrong song...

Dr. John/Skeet Club Savage/Frying Pan/Alias of the Day: You're about to overtake Connie Mack as looniest commenter on my blog. The only thing that gives him a slight edge is that he's not embarrassed to use his real name.

Overtaking Connie Mack? Well...we all need to have a goal. But, seriously, I couldn't carry Connie's jockstrap and you know it.

So Doug, you're saying I would be more looney if I used my real name like Connie? I think I'm going to agree with you on that.

That's right, you must be clinging to your senses if you still recognize the embarrassment you'd experience if you associated your comments with your real name. Connie's beyond that.

That was the goldarnest worthless passel of talk that I ever heard.
