Worth reading ... Laura Leslie's highlights from a recent N.C. House appropriations committee meeting.
Triad legislators mentioned include Alma Adams, Hugh Holliman, Cary Allred, Katie Dorsett and Dale Folwell. Laura relates Randolph County Rep. Pat Hurley's attempt to cut about $100,000 from Lottery Director Tom Shaheen's salary.
Best quote comes from Allred: "When I voted for the lottery, I didn't mean for the director of the lottery to be the winner of the lottery."
Fun stuff, with audio.

Okay, so lottery officials can give themselves a 5% raise when no other state worker can, and this is with an underperforming lottery? I'm with Allred and Hurley!

Technically, the lottery commission recommended the raises for lottery employees. But I agree they should be treated like other state workers.

I don't know? Maybe these quotes from former speaker Jim Black and the first lottery Director Mr Gedding might help!
" We both had no idea that the lottery would carry 7 to 10 years in prison if we won"
