App, State finish strong; when do Wake and Carolina play?

Our final poll concludes that Appalachian State is the best college football team in North Carolina for 2008, followed by resurgent N.C. State:

1. App, 11-2
2. State, 6-6
3. ECU, 8-4
4. UNC, 8-4
5. Wake, 7-5
6. Elon, 8-4

Big Four final standings

1. State, 3-0
2. UNC, 1-1
3. Wake, 1-1
4. Duke, 0-3

With more members of the overinflated ACC bowl-eligible than the league has guaranteed meaningless bowl allotments, the solution is obvious: Create a Carolina vs. Wake post-season showdown, a contest denied during the regular season. It would generate more fan interest than any other bowl game the two might land.

I like the Wake-UNC matchup idea. They could call it the Mediocrity Bowl, and it would have the advantage on not inflicting ACC football on a national audience.

Clearly, no ACC team belongs in a meaningful bowl game this season.

The ACC championship game features Big East imports, but neither one is all that impressive.

Expansion has not improved the quality of ACC football. Maybe Texas could be coaxed to join. The Longhorns could be pretty sure of getting into the league championship game in the ACC.

The ACC could invite Texas Tech, too, to provide at least one competitive league game for Texas.

You got that right Sports expert! In fact Clemson is a clear example of this meaningless bowl allotments with them playing in the Alaska Ice Bowl with Governor Palin conducting the event as the Chief of the Selection committee. She has decided that Clemson will be playing the Alabama Mosow Red Army Choir team.

Seems this is the same stuff we used to hear about Fla State and Miami entering the league.

The ACC went 3-1 vs powerful SEC opponents last weekend. Perhaps some of these meaningless bowls will give some ACC teams and fans and naysayers another shot at evaluating our pigskin abilities.

The ACC does not have a true "better than the rest", legit top 10 team this year. But we gotta bunch of good ones.

I say Carolina vs Carolina in Charlotte!

North Carolina fans should not wish for a game against South Carolina.

That line of logic is ... well ... illogical and rather simplistic and child like. That is not how it works. Duke beat Vandy. Vandy beat SC. UNC beat Duke. Georga Tech beat Georgia. UNC beat Ga Tech. See what I mean?

Ask a Texas fan about who beat who and see what you get.

Looks like Pitt. Too bad. Would love the weeks of poor SC fans arguing that we need to clarify when we say Carolina. No we dont! Only in SC is SC called Carolina. UNC is Carolina to the world! They dont even own USC! Ha.
