$639 million and still not enough to run a presidential campaign
Even on Sunday, the Obama campaign was still trying to hit me up for money ...
"Douglas --
"I'm the Chief Financial Officer for Barack Obama's campaign. I track the donations coming in and the expenses going out.
"I asked for the opportunity to write to you directly so that I could try to explain what's happening right now.
"This weekend the McCain campaign said they would outspend us by $10 million in the final days. This is on top of recent news that, as of October 15th, our opponents had $20 million more in the bank than our campaign and the DNC combined.
"We knew the McCain campaign was saving its resources for a last-minute blitz, and now we know just how much they'll pour into it.
"No matter what, we need to match what our opponents are spending in the final stretch. We can't slow down between now and Election Day.
"If you give today -- any amount -- you could be one of 5 first-time donors who will have a front row seat for the big Election Night event in Chicago with Barack.
"Marianne Markowitz
"Chief Financial Officer
"Obama for America"
Oddly enough, I was reluctant to take Marianne's word for it that the Obama campaign is so in danger of being outspent that it needs whatever small contribution I might be willing to make (absolutely nothing, actually).
So I looked up the latest numbers I could find.
OpenSecrets.org from the Center for Responsive Politics shows quite a different picture. The Obama campaign, at the last reporting period, had raised a staggering $639 million and doubled the McCain campaign's spending. They were worried about being outspent by $10 million over the weekend? If they were outspent for a couple of critical days, after raising $639 million, they sure weren't budgeting very well.
I just hope that was the last pitch for money.

Jeez, Doug, try to imagine what the figure would without the dolt McCain and his wildly successful Campaign Finance "Reform" Bill, that was going to get the money out of politics! What is has done is get him out of politics!

Sure, who's going to participate in public financing or agree to spending limits after this?

Not really! You will have the Obama campaign hitting you up for Mo money for his presidental swearing in rites in January. Than you will have to retire the Clinton campaign debt as promise by Obama. And finally there is the Palin campaign dress expense. 150 thousand dollars paid by the Taxpayers of the United States. The good news is that Sara husband Todd will sent out a e-mail requesting that this debt be pay to American Express since the card was in the Republican party and made George Bush personally liable for the debt and Sara.
So Doug! Will you be sending a donation to save Sara Dresses?

Obama a lied, McCain fried. Public financing has been a joke from the word go.Much like voter registration, until we have voter id cards and birth certificates to get them, our elections are a joke. Hell you know if the LIBERALS in Raleigh hand out driving permits like cereal box tops, one should have no problem, registering and voting many times! That is exactly why liberal news people are against voter id cards.
CM, I make a donation* to keep the crooks in Raleigh, hell I be glad to chip in for a dress for a real AMERICAN!
That were they steal my tax dollars for their own good. Like tall ship ride!

Today, At-Large Councilman Robbie Perkins sent an email to the city manager (it's public record) as well as the city council that described my latest post that contained information about the closed session of their last council meeting. Robbie seems to be troubled with the fact that I reported the following.
"At the last city council meeting, the council went into a closed session and voted to go back to the table with the $750,000 offer for the 41 officers in the EEOC complaint. (Side note: Fulmore was added to the EEOC complaint after his lawsuit against the city was tossed out) The vote passed 5-4. Voting yes were Barber, Perkins, Yvonne, Sandra and Lil Zachy. The no votes were from Wells, Bellamy-Small, Wade and Rakestraw. Wells and Bellamy-Small voted no because $750,00 is too low. They want to give them more than that. Wade and Rakestraw were the only council to vote in favor of not giving the EEOC complainants anything."
Robbie described my post as a "leak" and wrote it was comparable to the public release of the RMA report (I did that one too!). The bottom line is this, that $750,000 plus payment that is going to the officers was made possible by the Mitch Johnson. When Mitch said, "If I was a black officer, I would certainly feel targeted…" when describing the black book he tossed truth and due process out the window. Mitch hurt the people and the truth becaue he was on a witch hunt for Wray and absolutely conducted a smear campaign. It would not have worked without the help of the N&R and the council.
Robbie should be more concerned with getting the truth out to the public instead of being embarrassed by his actions behind closed doors. Robbie should be more concerned about Mitch's recent affidavit that totally contradicts any EEOC payment. Let's review, shall we?
My dear friend and former Greensboro Council Member, Sandy Carmany, wrote on her blog in January 2006 a post titled, "Observations on the Wray issue." In that post she wrote the following about the black book.
"What is the "black book" and how was it used?
The ORIGINAL use of this photo array of 19 black police officers was routine and legitimate -- a tool to assist a female in identifying her alleged assailant after complaining of being fondled and inappropriately touched during a search by a black officer. These photo line-ups of persons who match the general description of a suspect are used frequently in police work. However, it is also standard procedure that the book be dismantled or placed into an evidence file once the victim or witness has reviewed it. If that had been done in this case, there should not have been any problem whatsoever.
However, there is ample evidence that the book was used in inappropriate ways several times in efforts to implicate black officers in exchange for favorable treatment for crime suspects."
Who told Sandy of the ample evidence that the black book was used in inappropriate ways several times? Mitch? Was it Mitch that mislead the council?
Ironically, in that post there is a comment from Robbie Perkins.
Robbie Perkins said...
"Thanks for the report on this very serious issue. I hope you read the whole column at the next Council meeting. Remember, not everyone is a blogger."January 22, 2006 10:27 PM
As usual, I have a better idea. Robbie should read Sandy's post at the next council meeting. Let's see how that "Ample evidence statement" will go over now.
