Stimulus times eight
This woman who just had eight babies ...
Isn't she just doing her part to stimulate the economy?
I mean, talk about an increase in Gross Domestic Product.

Hmmm....Wonder who'll end up supporting these little ones?

Who's going to pay for all the other stimulus measures? What's the difference as long as it's spending money?
Think of all the money she's going to bring in to the hospital, doctors, other health-care providers, caregivers, suppliers and on an on. Bonanza!

Somebody said in the past that they made Reality TV shows out of this kind of thing and it defrayed the costs of childcare. One would think it would end up just being a chronicle of two parents simply losing their minds. It's just inconceivable how any parent could cope with such a thing.

It won't be more maddening that trying to keep track of $800 billion-plus in stimulus spending.

Are you assuming someone will be keeping track? So far, I haven't seen that happening.....

Nah. What we have in Washington is federal spending on fertility drugs.
Fertility drugs are good if nothing's going to happen otherwise, which may be where we are.
On the other hand, who's going to be feeding all those kids years from now?

I remember when Groucho Marx, on his show "You Bet Your Life," remarked after hearing that a male contestant with 18 children "loved his wife very much," that he "loved his cigar, too, but took it out of his mouth every once in a while." Groucho was given a two week vacation by the FCC and fined for that, but the sentiment is apparently still timely.

This single mother already has 6 young children under the age of 10. What nitwit physician prescribed fertility drugs for this woman inthe first place - and then implanted so many ferti;ized eggs in her. My understanding is that no more than 2 should be implanted in someone over 35 years old.
I think the physicians should be responsible for the medical bills that these 8 premature and underdeveloped babies incur. Also as a retired pediatric R.N. and Christian woman, I believe she should have her tubes tied so as not to act so irresponsible in the future.
How is she going to properly care for 14 children? Why should the taxpayers be asked to take on this burden?

I agree with Doug's Mom. All ethicist in this field have stated the physician(s) acted negligently by implanting too many eggs.

Was the problem that so many embryos were implanted, or that the mother refused to "selectively reduce" them, as would normally be done?
Posted on January 31, 2009 10:31 AM
There are multiple problems here. Too many embryos is first in my opinion. Next is choice of "selectively reducing". She all ready has six children, and based on reports that would give you reason to believe she would be declined to any reduction.
Another problem: Most of the posters/bloggers are speaking of the end costs, not to be discounted, but what about the upfront costs? Who paid that?? I have friends that spent $15,000 per implant and they had 2 unsuccessful pregnancies before the third resulted in their little boy.
The medical professionals in this situation need their licenses revoked.
