No longer governor, no more favors

Mary Easley has been asked to resign her job at N.C. State.

Sounds like being fired.

I just don't think she would have been treated this way if her husband were still governor.

Which is exactly the point.

Update, Wednesday: Kevin Siers cartoon on Erskine Bowles' about-face.

Sounds to me as undignified and poorly thought out for an NC University as was the free-speech fiasco at UNC. How sad for our state's national reputation.

Honestly, Sue, what planet do you live on?

Our state's "reputation" is as bad these days as Louisiana (at least the politicians down there are honest about being dishonest).

This Mary Easley thing has SMELLED since it began - giving the Governor's wife the cush job was what was undignified and poorly thought out.

Much like John Edwards' poverty center.

Ms. Easley's free speech is not being supressed. She can talk all she likes.

We the People just don't have to pay her for it.

When universities are being asked to prepare 15% budget cuts, it's hard to justify this kind of sinecure.

Doug Clark [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Oblinger and Bowles belatedly have recognized that the Mary Easley deal makes the state and university look bad.

Now, will Mrs. Easley comply with their request, or will the Easleys' sense of entitlement and privilege lead them to fight until the bitter end?

Sounds like being fired.* Doug

Naw! When the head dude refuses to sign your payroll check, than you are fired! It's called business government payroll 101 at UNC-CH school of business?

If she were going to go quietly, I don't we'd be reading about this in the paper. And I don't blame her: I'd put up with a lot of contempt for that kind of money.

Doug Clark [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I imagine there are negotions under way. How much is State willing to pay to make her go away?

Bingo, Doug. Bev will only be too happy to write that check. She wants this off the table . . . that and a newbie of like mind & party in the U.S. Attorney's office (so all the ugly can be swept under the rug by the party of change).

I wonder. Will the state's big newspapers protest that when it happens? Or will they let Edwards and Easley ride off into the BLUE yonder?

The Charlotte Observer yesterday called for keeping George Holding as U.S. attorney until he completes the Edwards and Easley cases.
