Not even much of a picture

Here's the infamous photo of Air Force One over Lady Liberty.

Disappointing. Couldn't they get lower? Well, I guess not.

And what's in the background, Jersey City? When they could have shot toward Manhattan?

What a travesty, from beginning to end.

Doug:

Can we assume that the travesty extended back a few years to when this picture ( http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Air_Force_One_over_Mt._Rushmore.jpg ) was taken?

And yes, they could have photographed the New York skyline if they had turned the Statue of Liberty around.

They could have gotten a nice profile shot of Lady Liberty to place Lower Manhattan in the background.

I wonder how many people in South Dakota were put into a panic by the Mount Rushmore shot.

Doug:

A "nice" profile shot of Lady Liberty's arm pit?

Also, the flight rules likely kept the planes to flying up and down the Hudson, again restricting the angle.

You're right about the Rushmore shot being less alarming. All of the Presidents except for Teddy Roosevelt look non-plussed.

Doug Clark [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Come on, Dave, they weren't flying quite low enough to get an armpit shot.

Teddy was always excitable.

On the other hand, he was the only one of the bunch who ever saw a flying machine.

Thanks for explaining the difference to Ribar. He would never have figured it out on his own. Besides, it was Bush's fault, right Dave!

After all, O'Bummer did "inherit" the plane from the previous administration. Is there no one on the left with a single living brain cell!

Apparently no one in this inept administration knew that they could have gotten a much better photo of Air Force One over flying the Statue of Liberty, as did Glenn Beck, which he posted on his show, using photo shop for about $800!

Hey O, it's 9 a.m., who is your plane terrorizing today!

You've got a problem with Jersey? I believe the island on which Miss Liberty resides has been subject to dispute but a little googling shows that the Island the Statue is on is "officially" in New York, however geographically it is in NJ waters. It's no less appropriate to shoot NJ in the background (it IS one of the big 50 if Texas is still with us); however, I think we should remember that we're seeing only one of lots of photos that were taken.

Agreed that NYC's skyline is better known but let's not denigrate "The Garden State." Shoot, I did 5 years there ("lived there" in case anyone is reading too literally).

Further, there's nothing wrong with PR photos of AF1 (yup, this situation was 'felony stupidity' and it'll never happen again) but all in all, what's wrong with some patriotic photography?

Doug Clark [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Thanks, Tony. But I want to make clear to partisan readers that I do not and never did cast blame for this on President Obama. He did not personally plan or authorize this photo op.

Sue, I also have lived in New Jersey (before reaching an independent age) and don't have bad memories of it. But let's face it, it's not abundant in scenic highlights, and certainly not along its Hudson shoreline, except for the Palisades:

I'll let Vito from Joisey City handle your dissing of the Garden State and just stay out of the comparative beauty debate.

Gee I thought the CEO was always in charge.
Funny they were the bad guys in business.
Of course had Bush done this it would be major news.
Like Ann Coulter and Imus. Mrs. Edwards was raped by the liberal media yesterday.
Now the media beloved liberals, are calling Miss California *a bitch, Rush a terrorist, and about this Dr. Corbett, the liberal media is very quite.
Tony you must remember, everything is the republicans fault. They even caused this damn mess in Raleigh.
She said the same thing a Obama, do not remember a out cry then.

Bush was responsible for every single thing done by the millions under him, even a lowly private thousands of miles away in the heat of battle.
Obama is responsible for nothing done by his underlings.
Can you say h-y-p-o-c-r-i-s-y?

Hey Doug, do you recall the "mission accomplished" banner, made and displayed by the sailors from the Carrier.

How long, and how often did Bush get blamed for that by folks like Ribar, and his friends on the left! It wasn't even his personal Carrier! Why every screw up by any Bush surrogate labled as a screw up by Bush, but none of O'Bummer's ongoing screw ups get pinned on him. Unlike Bush, O'Bummer immediately rushes to a microphone, and a Tele Prompter to tell us it wasn't his fault!

Doug Clark [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I agree you can site examples of bias or disparate coverage, but my question is what's right?

If it wasn't right to hold Bush personally responsible for every screw-up in his administration, is it right to blame Obama personally for similar flubs?
