More on Truth and Reconciliation

The Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Commission now has its own blog. Although the restrictions on what they can and cannot address is at times frustrating, the dialogue is still interesting. Meanwhile, News & Record columnist Ed Cone revisits his 1999 column about Nov. 3, 1979. And if you missed it, my colleague, Doug Clark, offers his thoughts.

Allen,

If this has been posted, I do not recall having noticed it: Archbishop Desmond Tutu is scheduled to speak at the Greensboro Coliseum's War Memorial Auditorium on November 3, 2005, the 26th anniversary of the Nazi-Klan Shoot-out.

This is part of Guilford College's Bryan Series and also includes Karen Armstrong on September 27, 2005 and Bill Moyers on March 14, 2006.

As the brochure indicates, "Guilford, a college founded by Quakers, invites the greater community to join in a yearlong conversation about Spirit and Spirituality in 2005-06. A focus will be a central Quaker testimony--direct and immediate access to the Divine--and the social principles that flow from that testimony."

The brochure does mention that Tutu was selected by Nelson Mandela to chair South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission. But this is only mentioned, not emphasized. I do not know if he will address his role on that commission, though it would be strange to have him come to Greensboro, speak, and not mention his involvement in that process, particularly while Greensboro has its own commission operating.

The website for the Bryan Series is www.guilford.edu/bryanseries. I have not yet visited that site.

The brochure does indicate that you can purchase a season pass for $30.00, which I assume would gain you access to all three speaking engagements. (A $5.00 handling fee is also required.)

Individual tickets are supposed to go on sale later.

If you have not already received and/or posted this information, I thought you might appreciate having it and being able to share it.

Have a good weekend!

Hardy
