A conversation with Sister President

Only a couple of weeks removed from her on-and-off resignation, President Johnnetta Cole will address "The State of Bennett College for Women" at a news conference Wednesday morning.

Later she will meet with the News & Record's editorial board for an hour and a half. Excerpts from the discussion will run in the May 29 Ideas section.

I would suggest you borrow a digital recording rig and record your session for podcast.

Mark, as it turns out, we did record the session digitally. Cole made some very interesting comments. We'll consider the podcast.

Has anyone considered that perhaps these faculty had legitimate concerns??? Perhaps policies outlined in the Faculty Handbook not being carried forth as written???
Can anyone show me a N&R mention of ANY student or faculty accomplishments since Cole arrived?
If faculty are so ?valued? why hasn?t the Faculty Factbook which outlines scholarly achievements been updated in over a year (just put in Bennett College Faculty Factbook in your search engine.)

Sounds like witch-hunt to me!

Perplexed: You are most observant. As a faculty member at Bennett College for Women, it is an atmosphere of intimidation. The faculty were referred to as "demons" in the chapel, a list of the "splinter faculty" were given to students (by whom??) and read aloud at a student meeting.

The concerns were discussed in a Faculty Senate meeting after Dr. Cole stated she wanted to know our concerns. Dr. Cole was not present for this meeting. The outcome was to request a meeting with Dr. Cole. Her leadership was never questioned - just the implementation of college policy. You are correct - the concerns involved policies of the college not being enforced - namely Tenure and Promotion, contracts, and workload. Just a side note - the faculty senate had sent a letter to Cole several months prior regarding concerns but she never responded.
