Where have all the candidates gone?
Mayor Keith Holliday has announced that he will run for a fourth term. That's no surprise.
A bigger surprise would be if anyone on the council gets decent competition from serious challengers.
Now that David Hoggard has said he won't seek an at-large seat, the fall election is looking less and less interesting.
Ben Holder does observe on his blog that District 1 Councilwoman Dianne Bellamy-Small may be vulnerable because she hasn't endeared herself to neighborhood groups. But who would step forward to oppose her in a district that's been saddled with weak leadership?
This council deserves decent competition at the polls. And it needs at least occasional infusions of new blood. The council also should be held accountable for recent missteps, including Project Homestead and the Generals fiasco.
But that'll hard to do if no one runs against them.

I'd offer to run... but I have a handicap that would most likely make election impossible. {;-)

I agree with Mr. johnson about the need for competition. I also think that the people of GSO are a huge reason for the fiascos. When less that 20% votes what do you expect. Give 20% get 20%. Keith Holliday sets the temp. That tempo is nice and slow and quite. Shhhhh. We do not want everyone involved.

Maybe I could start small.

Apparently from his grades at Yale, he did a little better than your boy, Kerry.

Did I say Kerry was "my boy"? I don't recall ever saying that. Certainly not in this forum. Why do you think that it's safe to assume that anyone who says even the slightest thing against the president is automatically a Kerry supporter?

Pardon me Eric. Don't get your panties in a wad. Just joking around. Now go lie down and think happy thoughts...you're a little to wound up for my taste my boy.

Dude, it's the weekend. Happy thoughts all around.

But speaking of Bush vs. Kerry... has it occurred to anyone that the USA must be in pretty terrible shape if the best we can do is choose between two C-minus students for our president and c-in-c?
I think I could do better. At least I graduated with a C-plus overall GPA.

My freshman year I had a .9. Took a lot of years but finally graduated and beat both Bush and Kerry with a 3.45. Maybe it was because I had to work for mine and someone didn't hand me the dough to go and party my life away. Uncle Sam was certainly a harsh task master but I say thank you to my dear uncle.
