This just in from Hawaii ...

A postcard came in the mail today picturing lush blue-green waters and sugar-white sandy beaches lined with high-rise hotels.

It read:

Aloha --
Wish you were here -- there's lots to write about.

And thankfully Scott Yost has written about it.

How dare we muddle our priorities and have a reporter instead write a series from Iraq on Triad soldiers.

Hey, I'm going to be heading off to Hawaii next month, for a writers' conference. You want me to check in from Maui while I'm there? {;-)

Oh Allen admit it. You wish you could write 1/2 as well as Yost! My Rhino is properly displayed outside right under my American flag. It sways so nicely in the wind. Please salute it if you happen by.

Allen Johnson said:

I'm typing with one hand and saluting with the other.

I'm going over to the Rhino's blog to tell on all the traitors who are coming over here to the News & Record's blogs!

The thing that gets me about Hawaii is that it doesn't need to be the ultra-expensive boondoggle everyone seems to assume it is. I've been there twice and both times paid less per night than I have on trips to Florida.

I'm going to Maui for just under 2 weeks here at Labor day, and my B&B (paid in advance) cost less than $800 for 9 nights. Combine that with free air fare, and you have a pretty nice vacay. Maybe the County Commissioners need to talk with me when making travel plans...

Allen Johnson said:

Or maybe I need to talk to you.

Hey, at least Allen and Scott both have a sense of humor...

What stops you from doing both? I mean it is not like the N & R is hard up for money, you did after all donate what like $150,000 to the museum. How much would it have cost, I assume if a free weekly can afford it why not the daily paper?

Actually, that answer was meant to be tongue-in-cheek.
John Robinson gave a more straightforward take on his blog.
