Bruce Davis, up close and personal
Our interview with County Commissioner Bruce Davis, who chairs that board, appears in today's newspaper. The full audio of the session, held last week, also is available online.
I certainly give Davis points for directness. He does not hem and haw.
As for what he said in those straight-ahead answers ... well, that's another matter entirely.
Davis appears tragically naive about the untamed beast that is the commissioners. But he also is a victim of a system that too often places partisan politics over the good of the county.
When he served as chairman, Mike Barber, tried a different approach by making overtures to the Republicans in ways symbolic and substantive.
The commissioners rewarded him by dumping him as chairman
And we rewarded him by voting him out of office.

The Guilford CC's are a joke as a whole. The raise issue should have caused a revolt. The commissioners in Alamance where I live have the lowest pay in the state for a county our size and the lowest taxes.....put that in your pipe Bruce baby. Our schools are in better shape, we are building a new jail and on and on....all on a 55 1/4 cent tax rate.
Tell Sabo I wish she were single!

Until I read the interview, I did not realize that George W. Bush and Bruce Davis are related.
I hope in the future we will be able to clone more perfect human beings.

Well, Hardy, he certainly isn't lacking in the confidence department.

Did I miss it or did you not ask him how much the "investigation" about Jenks Crayton cost?

We did not ask that question, Sue. We should have.

Allen, I just got around to listening to the interview. First of all I think you did a good job with your questions.
I have so many things to say about the interview I dont know where to start. I took notes.
I think from the beginning of the interview, Davis was defensive. If he had his druthers he would of had the questions BEFORE the interview but for TECHNICAL reasons, of course.
He stated he never shyed away from a challenge, well I ask Davis, is it a challenge that you pay your taxes on time? Does your "military background" somehow exempt you from doing this?
He feels his biggest accomplishment is that he is a voice for the community. Hey Davis, pay your taxes and keep your mouth shut. You would serve the "community" alot better if you did, imo.
As for the raises.. well he feels its important to have public discussions, he doesnt want people to think he doesnt want them, however if you have a public discussion on every issue (sic) nothing gets done.
He said of mis-steps, he had none whatsoever, however later in the interview he said that the closest he came to a mis-step was when he "called the wrong people" to do the investigation into the Tax Department "Scandal".
He went on to say if Guilford County were "his" company, Crayton would of been fired along time ago, that the SBI, FBI, and the Department of Revenue had "no clue", and that "they" exposed what the "truth" was, and if the findings did not want to submit to the truth then we move on. hahahaha...(is that all you got Davis?)
He also stated he read alot about this Crayton matter. Statutes, etc. I was not aware that Davis was an Attorney. Is he?
Now all he has left is "politics are rescuing him" referring to the outcome of the investigation. hahahhaha..
Allen, please tell me where I can get a copy of the allegations, the report and the findings.
Thanks and again, good job.
