Thinking Out Loud

« More room at the inn | Main | Endorsements, Round 2 »

We came. We met. We listened. We learned.

We're not supposed to report publicly what goes on in the Mosaic Partnership sessions, so I'll have to be a little cryptic.

This week's cluster session, in which small groups of partners discuss community issues, was rich, contentious, honest, constructive and very satisfying -- just the kind of dialogue Greensboro needs much more of.

The Mosaic Partnership is an initiative begun by Mayor Keith Holliday to pair community leaders of different races and ethnic backgrounds. The idea is to build greater trust and communication in the city.

If Thursday night's meeting was any indication, we're making progress.

Ground breaking I am sure!

Allen Johnson said:

Don't know about that, Ben, but it was a very hopeful session. We'll see what happens next.

just wanted to make sure you understood my comments was pure sarcasim. The mosiac project is about as useful as the mayor's task force to fight crack....lots of hot air...no results.

Allen Johnson said:

I suspected as much. Are you a participant?

JayCee said:

Is this like sitting a dumb student next to a smart one in hopes the dumb one will gain intelligence through osmosis?

Allen Johnson said:

No, it's an attempt to foster dialogue and build relationships. It's not perfect, but it's well worth the effort, from where I sit.

JayCee said:

OK, Allen, I apologize for being "flip," I hope good things come from it.
I just bristle when I read of government sponsored programs based on a racial and/or ethnic component and have to question if they're just feel-good efforts or worthwhile projects.

Mr. Johnson,

I am sure that u r returning sarcasim when u ask if I am a participant. Ummmm, the mayor would never ask me to participate in his Mosaic project. So, if it was sarcasim returned I have a new respect for your wicked remarks....but...if u r seriously asking me if I am a participant....man...that would be like Dianne Bellamy-Small thanking me for the asbestos ordinance....that would not be politically correct...only council and their secret supporters participate in such non sense.

To be frank, that's was part of my skepticism. But I believe some good will come of it. Of course, I'm an idealist.
