The cartoon controversy hits home

Now that the Rhino Times has published two of the controversial cartoons that have sparked violent protests in the Middle East and beyond, a few observations:

1. The Rhino has a right to publish the art, but for what purpose? Anyone who wanted to see those cartoons by now already has; they've been readily available on the Internet forever.

2. City leaders commendably have worked to keep the peace and to keep lines of communication as open as possible with the Muslim community.

3. It's particularly heartening to see Jewish faith leaders step forward to denounce the cartoons as unnecessary and unproductive, as Rabbis Havivi and Guttman did in today's letter to the editor.

4. As others have said, it would be equally productive for moderate Muslims to continue denouncing the violent protests, which are inexcusable and indefensible. And to ramp up the volume.

This is true of most of the content in your paper. Why bother printing anything unoriginal?

Yes I imagine our City Father's are again running over and kissing the feet of Greensboro's Muslim community just as they did when the Muslim woman attacked and beat upon the two Wal-Mart employees! Our City Father's are an EMBARRASSMENT to the rest of us.

If you are so desperate for a story to run then try this one on for size; "In what has to qualify as probably one of the worst decisions of the decade, a committee chaired by Treasury Secretary John Snow has approved a deal that would allow a firm based in the United Arab Emirates to run some of our most significant ports. These ports would include Baltimore, New Orleans, Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey and Miami.” YOU WILL GET MORE INFORMATIONS ON dR. GUARINIO'S BLOG

Brenda, actually, the Muslim woman didn't attack and "beat upon" two Wal-Mart employees.
She allegedly kicked one of the employees as she was being helped into a wheelchair.

Brenda Bowers said:

Mr. Johnson, That is not how I understood the story at all from an eye witness. And if that is all she did then why after having her rib broken supposedly by a Wal-Mart employee did she not sue Wal-mart as she and her son were surely hoping to do. But instead the lady was going to be charged herself with assault, so she quickly left the country. Really Mr. Johnson don't you read your own newspaper? Or is your apparent love affair with the Muslims, whom you seem to consider oppressed and misunderstood people, so great that you can't see the hate and intolerance that they spew out at all the rest of the world's population (and that even includes you Mr. Johnson!).

Brenda:
From the News & Record, March 5, 2005:

"Though there are differing versions of the incident, it started after Saudi apparently discovered money missing from her wallet and implied that an employee had stolen it. Police arrived after store officials asked her to leave and she refused. To get her outside, police put her in a wheelchair, and they allege that she kicked an employee. Police say she was handcuffed and went limp when they tried to put her in a cruiser."
