Too many homeless puppies, far too little good judgment
The News & Record story on the unprecedented surge of puppies dropped off at the Guilford County Animal Shelter was hearbreaking.
People obviously are buying pupples first and thinking later.
Their excuse: They discovered they simply didn't have time for the pets.
This is in itself a form of cruelty to animals.
These people ought to be ashamed.

I agree, but if you criminalize it, these unwanted animals will likely suffer a worse fate. I wish there was an easy solution to the problem.
A lot of people probably shouldn't have pets to begin with. Personally, I could not give up any of my many animals unless it was a compelling reason (like dying). I have adopted three adult animals from the Guilford County Animal Shelter and there is no way I would take them back. Dogs especially have emotional reactions to being caged for so long. I feel the same way about pet shops. I don't think they should be allowed to keep dogs in those little cages.
