'Snakes' with no fangs

The fierce Internet hype about the movie "Snakes on a Plane," as it turns out, had no legs.

Despite strong showings at Thursday midnight screenings, the movie did less and less business on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

When all the fuss was over, the movie with the cool high-concept title slithered to only $15.2 million at the weekend box office.

Maybe that explains all the convenient parking at The Grande Saturday night.

No matter what they say, any movie released in August is expected to bomb due to everyone being out of town etc. I suspect the word of mouth was not too good on this movie. Fear of snakes is like one of the deepest ingrown instinctual fears in humans. To endure 90 min. of it and have it be a pleasant experience is hard to imagine.

One could say then, of course, how about all these other horror flicks like Chain Saw massacre etc. I think there is a kind of weird sexual allure to these kind of movies as well as vampire movies etc. but aside from the pure Freudian elements of "Snakes on a Plane" it doesn't appear that human's are THAT warped.

I could only see it working as a comedy which of course we'll have to wait for the next Scary Movie to see since the Wayans brothers should probably have a field day with this movie.

Actually, I've heard it is very tongue-in-cheek, in a perverted, twisted kind of way. I'll probably see it, if only out of curiosity.
