'World Trade Center'
I did not see "Snakes on a Plane" today.
We chose instead to take in Oliver Stone's superb "World Trade Center," a harrowing but uplifting true story of heroism and survival on Sept. 11.
The film has done considerably better at the box office than another quality 9/11 film. "United Flight 93," probably in part because many moviegoers know going in that there is a happier outcome to "World Trade Center."
"World Trade Center" has no political agenda. It does, however, remind us of the extraordinary unity and selflessness that the terrorist attacks brought out in so many Americans.
We need to get that feeling back somehow.

I am glad to hear that Stone resisted the temptations to make a political statement, as well as resisiting the temptation to indulge in revisionist history.
He's done both in previous work.

I *might* go see World Trade Center. I've just been so put off by Stone's movies I'm sure I'll be looking past the story for a political agenda somwhere. It just seems unlikely to me that Stone can do anything non-political for public consumption. But I might be wrong.

As far as I could tell, Jaycee, there really isn't a political agenda. It's almost purely character-driven.

Allen, have you heard/read of American Empire and the Commonwealth of God by David Ray Griffin (and others)? Shocking stuff about the failure of the 9/11 Commission (which was overseen by a close Bush White House former aide). I am not 100% convinced, but it brings up issues I am sure no Hollywood movie would ever be allowed to posit, even partly.
