A pet overpopulation summit?

Karla Ewald, executive director of the Humane Society of the Piedmont Inc. said in a phone conversation Wednesday that her organization is working to organize a summit meeting soon on the pet overpopulation problem in Guilford County.

Good. It's high time pet lovers marshalled their collective forces rather than spend more energy snarling at one another.

A unified front against this epidemic is long overdue.

This group sounds like they care about all the dogs and will carefully look for a solution to benefit all involved.

If Dot Kearns were on the board of the Humane Society they would already have those dogs boarding buses to doggie magnet programs, separated by color, so the big clunky dogs can learn to do flips in the air while the cutesy little dogs simply work on fetching.

I'll bet I could post on global warming and someone out there could find a High Point Choice angle.

Global Warming? That's easy!

Bus hot-natured people out of the area and bus cold-natured people in.

Then promptly renovate the Tomlinson building to keep the Central kids comfortable.

Done!

Allen, rented a good DVD last pm called "The Brand New Wonderful" It's kinda sorta about 9/11 but then again maybe not. Sort of a musing of how unrelated events may be deeply related, then again, maybe not at all. It was very good.

I hate to be so bourgeois, but where does all of this canine fornication happen? (I assume it's fornication.) I've lived in three fairly different neighborhoods in Greensboro, known hundreds of dogs, and never known one that had puppies. Is this a country thing?

Allen Johnson said:

Thanks for steering us back on topic, Brian. As I understand it, the rural nature of some areas in the county is part of the problem. I'm also told that income -- some people not being able to afford spaying and neutering -- contributes as well.
The rest of the problem, I've been told, is neglect and ignorance.

brian444 said:

Then, a roving neutermobile that drives around rural Guilford county attracting canines with the smell of dog biscuits and the sound of whatever dogs are attracted to. All dogs so located are neutered on the spot. Those with tags are returned to their owners; those with none are left where they're found.

Allen Johnson said:

Some people wonder if requiring dog licenses would help. I'm not sure it would without sufficent resources to enforce the rule.
