Thumbs up for 'Babel'
I'd recommend "Babel" highly for anyone looking for a well-crafted, thoughtful movie.
A tortured tale of crossed signals, clashing cultures and miscomunication, "Babel" stars Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett and recalls Oscar winner "Crash."
But its storytelling isn't as linear or as sentimental as in "Crash." Nor does it rely as much on coincidences that tend to stretch credulity in "Crash." It instead shows how a hunting rifle given as a gift connects the lives of people on three continents and four countries.
Written by Guillermo Arriaga and directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. it's long but riveting.

I haven't been able to get to Babel, but I did make it to it's evil twin "Borat", which seems to be about the same subject matter. I can't remember seeing a movie this outrageous that still seemed to be making a point of some kind, which as far as I can tell, is that America has deteriorated into a hopeless realm of interest groups, all equally absurd in their vision and values, which has become equally indecipherable to each of us as it is to a foreigner.

Ah,, "Borat's" on my list as well, although I hear some of humor is mercilessly cruel.

Gross and merciless. Although I thought it did seem to hit Bush and the Right a little harder, it was an equal opportunity offender.
