We print 'em but we don't write 'em
Two recent inquiries from readers:
1. "Why are you not printing the letters to the ediitor about the police mess?"
2. "You are not printing enough letters that support the other side of the issue about the State Baptist Convention and gays."
In both cases the answer is the same. The letters we publish are a pretty accurate representation of what we receive.
If you want to see points of view that aren't represented in the letters as much as you think it ought to be, please write.

What about the letters on Playstation-gate? Are you suppressing those letters or has the rage generated by the whole sorry incident rendered the populace of Greensboro speechless?
I read on a blog, by the way, that Edwards actually wanted the Playstation for his own use. But I doubt we'll be hearing about that, what with the N&R's close association with the Edwards PR machine.

You don't write them but have been known to spin them this way or that at times by providing a heading which may or may not be an accurate rep. of the subsequent text. Never intentional, of course, and after all, you have to provide some heading.

That's a good point. Why, Allen, don't you let the letter writers pick their own headlines? Back when my wife used to allow me to write letters to the editor--she made me stop because somehow I offended people, several of whom called our house--you guys always butchered the headline, even though I had provided good ones.

We're happy for readers to suggest headlines, but they need to fit the allotted space.

Is "Edwards Bullies Past the Little Guy on His Way to Wal-Mart as He Ostensibly Protects the Little Guy from Wal-Mart" too long for a headline? If not, see if you can find somebody to write a letter to go with it. If it's too long, maybe you could cut "ostensibly."

It's catchy, but a tad long.

Please tell us when you have printed a letter, on bad things that your liberal friends do in Raleigh?? I can never recall one in the NR. This state is at the bottom of everthing, except high taxes. I have not even seen a article on this 18 million $ screw up on I 40.Tell us how many more highway deaths are expected over this mess. A Tennesse carried a story last week that 10-12% more deaths than normal will occur because of this dot screw up.
