More trouble for Nifong

Embattled Durham DA Mike Nifong faces ethics charges from the state bar association.

Small wonder.

No matter where you stand on this case it's impossible not to be disappointed and angered with how Nifong has conducted this case and misled the public.

The ethics charges, filed Thursday, accuse Nifong of violating four rules of professional conduct by making misleading and inflammatory comments about the players accused of raping an exotic dnacer.

Nifong could be disbarred.

In one last opportunity to act honorably Nifong should recuse himself from this case. Or the judge in the case should force him to.

But Allen, you were perfectly willing to let Dot Kearns-a white Guilford Co. populist slide on a back room deal with the High Point NAACP that she would deliver white kids from somewhere to Andrews highschool in exchange for votes. She did this dispite the fact that it was bitterly opposed by the parents of these children and despite the fact that past experience in High Point showed forced busing to be unsucessful in raising any achievement at any school whatsoever just as this latest redisctricing has been.

She took these children and parents who were nothing more than vigorus supporters of public education, divided and alienated them and labeled them as incipient racists even though over thirty percent of the student body of the highschool she raided was minority and even though all they wanted was for their kids to go to a well functioning school.

You, along with some other columnists, thought this was just great.

So which is it? Either leave Nifong alone or own up.

John,
The game is up for Allen. He sent his kid to Northwest. He just wants diversity via bussing for others and a very good neighborhood school for himself and his very middle class not very diverse neighbors.

Should be be disbarred (or the journalistic equivalent) too?

I think so.

I dont suppose you guys could get your own blog? You do nothing for your cause by continuosly hijacking threads. N-O-T-H-I-N-G!

Dont get me wrong I respect your views and admire your tenacity but I do tire of your unrelated postings.

Allens post is about ethics. What has happenned to the High Point schools is all about ethics or rather a lack of it.

In asking us to stop commenting about High Point is the same as asking Allen to stop reporting on news that HE feels strongly about.

I am sorry if this disturbs you Mick but we will not stop until this wrong is made right. One step in that direction is to get Allen to admit that his and his newspapers support of the High Point choice plan and the bussing that followed is wrong.

John said:

Mick, what part of this aren't you getting?

White populist. Exploiting people to get elected.
Painting the exploited people as rascists.

Causing the exploited to attend "hearings" with members of the schoolboard to appeal their school "re-assignments" (sometimes with attorney). Hardships like having to move, sell your home, homeschool your kids, haul your kids to the next county to school or MOVE to the next county(and have Dot's realty company earn a commission when you get there) in order to get your kid into what you feel is a decent school ALL because a government official thought they were doing the right thing and the hell with anybody else's opinion.

Now Allen above has expressed outrage at Nifong, while giving the above a free pass. When somebody makes remarks on the blogs inconsistent with his previous positions on things, is this not C-O-M-M-E-N-T W-O-R-T-H-Y?

If that's not comment worthy, what are we doing here? Please clarify.

Skeet Club Savage said:

Mick, it's not clear what we're supposed to be doing here on these blogs. For instance Allen posted on this subject and, as is his wont, poof...he gone. He may be back, he may not. His pronouncement is done...hasta la vista.

What are we supposed to be doing here?

I mean, I suppose I could make some kind of generic comment about how it looks like Nifong is way in the wrong, agree with Allen, yada, yada, yada.. Or I could talk in the abstract about how some people will do anything to get elected, or some other verbal masturabatory activity.

Instead, you took the above people to task for relating it to something actually meaningful and literal in their lives, that has affected them and many other people very deeply and in a negative way.

Ah, the heck with it. Pass the K-Y.

As a North High Point parent that has been BOINKED by Dot Kearns, I truly appreciate John Gehris, Truth, Skeet Club Savage and all the others on the blogs for keeping this issue in the forefront and never giving up.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU!!

North HP folks,

Please do not get me wrong. I am with you on the School Choice mess. I strongly believe gerrymandering, bussing and other types of attempts at social engineering are not only doomed to failure in modern day America but just plain wrong. I and my family were lucky they did not choose our neighborhood for this experiment. I am with you 100%. ALways have been and always will be.

Here is where I see the problem with your tactics. I submit you lose some effectiveness with the masses with your current strategy. That is all. It is human nature to tune out at some point. Does anyone listen to D Hayes when she pipes up about racism under every rock?! It MUST be noted, whenever able to somehow vote for change I am with you every time. I will try to keep up with the issues but I am sorry to say I rarely read any NHP post, responses, etc any longer.

And no I do not see the connection between Nifong and NHP. I doubt many outside of NHP do. Just being honest. But, could be just me.

Yes we are supposed to explore and debate the issues of the day. I just tire of NHP comments in what I consider unrelated threads. Again, could be just me. But it is your time and the N&Rs dime so go for it. It wont change the way I feel on the subject. Im with you.

Mick,
Thanks for your words. Sorry in advance for any annoyance to you.

We HAVE to give Allen and Co a hard time though. This two faced behaviour/do as I say not do as I do journalism needs to be exposed. I just cant stand to listen to a man harp on about diversity and then send his kid to the "best of the best" neighborhood school in the County while advocating for my daughter to get sent 10 miles across town instead of being able to walk 800 yards (NO BS!).
OK the Choice plan is dead so they then turn around and support gerrymanded district lines that do the same as the Choice plan. North HP and South HP parents/kids want the same as everybody else in Guilford County. Thats all.
