Where the jobs are
A sign of the times: The BBC reports that the demand for qualified call center employees is so great in India that job-hungry Europeans are pulling up stakes and moving there.
Says the BBC report: "Entry and mid-level employees are recruited from European countries on Indian salaries [italics mine] to service their native markets from India.
You could say that India is importing workers from other countries that are exporting jobs there to keep pace with the jobs those other countries are exporting there.
Meanwhile, in Guilford County, the market for call center jobs appears steady, if not growing. The CitiCards call center seems to constantly advertise for jobs.

Allen, don't know if you read the Yes Weekly but the editor actually apologized and kind of ate a little crow in last weeks edition for jumping on the bandwagon for wanting to see some what he thought were snotnosed priviledged white kids screwed over. Saying he was misled and trusted a white populist idiot.
It can be done.
Posted on January 8, 2007 4:31 PM
Sure it can. We're hardly always right and we should own up to our mistakes.
Posted on January 8, 2007 4:33 PM
So...Does this mean you're going to try and help the people and neighborhoods in Guilford Co. who were Dotfonged whose Dotfonging you supported?
Posted on January 8, 2007 5:35 PM
Did you know that African Americans dropout of Grimsley at a higher percentage than Dudley?
Unbelieveable! Diversity is not very good for the African American at Grimsley!
He is better off at Dudley!

Savage:
Why would I? I thought the High Point plan had merit.
Posted on January 8, 2007 7:28 PM
I agree Allen. I too thought the High Point plan had merit. I'm sad it's gone and I'm sad that it was not implemented in all 117 Guilford county schools. Every slavemaster should be reaping the benefits of slaves and vise versa.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that they (the BOE) trashed that High Point plan because they (BOE) are afraid to admit that the slaves and slavemasters should mingle. What are they (BOE) so afraid of? What happened specifically that made them drop the plan like a hot potato?
I'm very disappointed in that at-large Rep. Dot Kearns for not advocating loud enough that the whole county needed diversity. She's supposed to speak for the whole county, isn't she?
I think everyone everyslave master should have a slave and what's a slave without a master?
Posted on January 8, 2007 8:33 PM
And for those that may disagree about the slave thing--well, to be honest, I never really thought this way until Deena Hayes made such a good point at the last BOE meeting. I mean, MAN, that woman knows her stuff! Really, until she pointed out the fact that the slaves and slavemasters were in the SAME school, I would have never even imagined it that way! But what an AWESOME concept!
Posted on January 8, 2007 8:50 PM
Hey Toby! Shut up and get back on the bus!
And always remember. The white man is the slavemaster but I like the fact that you remember who sold you into slavery...Deena, Walter and Allen. Just like old times. I bet they told you they were helping, right?
Posted on January 8, 2007 9:00 PM
Oh, it's not so bad. They said it's for the good of all the chillern. If I could just get something for the chafing from these chains I'd be fine.
Posted on January 8, 2007 9:13 PM
That's the point, Allen. There were people that thought Nifong had integrity and merit, and now they are admitting their mistake, as will anyone who looks at the facts and outcome of the Map C Dotfong. We're waiting for you to admit yours. Something tells me we'll probably be waiting a long time, just like we'll all be waiting a long time for Nifong or Dot to admit it.
Posted on January 8, 2007 10:38 PM
Allen,
You continue to "ring" that bell dont you. DO I feel a hint of irritation in your post?
Posted on January 8, 2007 10:48 PM
Allen, at least you have the courage and honesty to admit you thought the CP had merit and that puts you in rarefied air indeed, so I salute you.
Since we're on an honesty kick, do you think you would have thought the CP had merit and would you have been blowing the horn for it if it took your son away from a good school, presumeably somewhere close to your home where you obviously elected to send him, to a more distant poorer- performing school? Would you have gone along with it?
Do you think Alan Duncan, Kris Cooke, Marti Sykes would have done the same? Now I don't know for sure. Maybe Alan Duncan and Kris Cooke were working behind the scenes for years to have thier children moved from Page to Dudley but for some reason or another they were never able to get it worked out and they kept it low-key and the rest of us will never know about it. Maybe Marti Sykes was secretly unhappy with her son at Grimsley and she tried and tried to have him sent to Smith for "balance". The rest of us will simply never know.
Thanks,
Posted on January 9, 2007 8:39 AM
The only merit the Chop Plan had was that the kids that fled to private schools are now reaping the benefits. I don't know ONE single child that returned to their home school once the Plan was chopped.
And for those that think the Choice/Chop plan is gone they are mistaken. It's still here. It's just disguised as a redistricting map. It's called "Map C-star". It's basically the lottery without the tickets. Once again, it's causing kids to move and go private. If it was a plan to better educate our kids, then it's working. It's costing the parents a bit more, bit it's working well.
So, yes,...I see "merit" in the plan too. Maybe that's what Allen is talking about.
Posted on January 9, 2007 9:11 AM
Not really. I was merely responding to a question.
Posted on January 9, 2007 9:13 AM
Allen, I know it's only been an hour and a half, but do you think if you got a chnace, and it doesn't have to be right this minute or even today for that matter, but do you think you could kindly merely respond to my question above.
I'm on the edge of my seat.
Posted on January 9, 2007 10:08 AM
Allen,
Please tune in tonight to the public speaking portion of the BOE meeting. It may help you better understand how hurtful Deena's "Slave" comments were. I hear there will be some speakers with that as their topic.
I don't expect you to write about it though. Just listen. It's amazing what just sitting back and listening can do for the soul. I wish Deena would listen a bit more and talk a bit less...unless of course she's ready to apologize to a little girl, her parents, and an entire county.
Posted on January 9, 2007 10:14 AM
John,
Get back to your patients. You don't want to "lose" anyone while waiting for Allen's reply. You know what it is anyway....."what's good for YOU is not good for ME..".....blah, blah, blah...now GO John, you have lives to save.
Posted on January 9, 2007 10:19 AM
Good Doc,
Don't know where where you're practicing my friend. but that's the point. Allen was the M.C. of the show that has my patients moving to other counties and patients refusing to drive into downtown High Point to do any business whatsoever, they are so angry.
Every HP businessman or professional needs to be concerned when their leaders force people out of their schools and out of their county. Every HP citizen need to be concerned when their leaders enact legislation that creates real estate dead zones in their city or eventuates any type of civic dis-engagement.
THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!
Posted on January 9, 2007 11:47 AM
Still waiting on my simple enquiry above, Allen.
Simple yes or no. Would you promote having your son taken from a good school of your choosing close to your home, to another school farther away that you didn't have confidence in because a politician thought you should?
Simple yes or no. I'm not asking you to resolve world hunger or anything.
Posted on January 9, 2007 2:42 PM
Allen, I'm starting to appreciate your genius. At first look one would think that you're being kind of a hypocritical, kind of weasley-type guy who's painted himself into a corner. But, by not answering the question above, I think you are being Socratic. You're showing us and recapitulating for us the exact dynamic that brought forth the Choice Plan. Citizens asking questions and being met with...silence. Because when you would force on others something you won't do to yourself there is no rational answer you can give. Therefore silence is the only rational answer that can be given. The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind.
You must know that being the MC of north High Point's "Dottdamerung" is going to follow you.
I doubt if silence is going to help. Admitting you were wrong might go a ways toward helping, but we know in your hubris, wanting any of your fellow citizens approval is not that big a deal, especially those Neo Nazi Death Metal punks in NHP. Besides, all "cutting edge" journalists like the kind who investigate graft on schoolboards have enemies, right?
Posted on January 9, 2007 3:46 PM
Allen,
Don't let the Savage of Skeet Club get you down.
Allen, there is nothing wrong with a man choosing to work hard to make a good living.
You bust your but to make something of yourself in order to make enough money to live in a nice, safe neighborhood,,,,with nice, safe neighborhood schools,,,,Hell,,,it's The American Dream.
What you have Allen,,,is what drives young people to get an education,,,get married and have children,,,,climb the ladder of success and at least have the opportunity to raise a family in a nice, safe neighborhood.
You should feel no guilt that High point is getting screwed by the school system,,,just be careful though,,you never know when the tides may turn and the Injustices that have occurred in HP may someday find their way North.
In the meantime,,,,Enjoy the "American Dream",,,,
Posted on January 9, 2007 5:26 PM
Allen,
You have to admit that it certainly must take a very special person to champion a plan for one section of town to be an experiment for "the" sacrifice whilst the said person enjoys the benefits of an excellent neighborhood school, 400K house average neighborhoods, several acres of land etc.
It must be a hard thing to do and I dont envy him.
I just dont know how some people sleep at night though, do you?
Posted on January 9, 2007 8:39 PM
Allen will be NO Slave to you NHP Slavemasters! He has his own cotton to pick. Leave him alone. He has himself to live with. That will be enough to get him in the end.
Posted on January 9, 2007 9:36 PM
Great plan you championed Allen. After three full years of the Choice plan and redistricting YOU have helped High Point become MORE segregated than ever. Almost 400 white kids have left High Point's High schools ( the highest percentages from Andrews and Central). Putting that in perspective the total enrollment in the three schools 1s 3600. Yes, the unique thing about High Point is while the total enrollment in Guilford County increases 12% High Point manages to buck that trend. Four years ago there were 3800 kids enrolled.
DOnt worry, it will get worse. As we speak many parents are hoping and praying something will change. At the same time they prepare the sale of their homes or fill out the private school forms. YES! IT IS GOING TO GET WORSE.
Get plan Allen. It really had merit.
You are great.
You ARE great.
YOu really ARE great.
Oh, Great man!
YOu are REALLY, REALLY Great.
Great job.
Posted on January 9, 2007 10:14 PM
Let it go, guys. The choice plan is over already.
Posted on January 9, 2007 11:59 PM
Who is this guy Eric Huey? His critique of Deena Hayes and her comments are way off. Where is he getting his information? Why wasn't he equally offended by the assumptions made by Bill Spaulding and those other VSN parents? His vote pandering is blantantly disgusting and lacks integiry. If he is going to run his campaign by jumping on the controversial bandwagon this county can do with out that kind of leadership. I liken it to an ambulance chasing Lawyer (sorry just a reference, attorneys).
Deena has said it as plainly as it was recorded and Mr. Huey is trying his best to put a spin on it that isn't working. If he has to use situations like these to impress people and try to win votes, I'd rather stick with DOT. As least Deena has conviction and is consistent. Where are you going to get your next campaign issue, the Rhino?
Posted on January 10, 2007 1:10 AM
Alan, the choice plan is over but the redistricting is NOT. The flight is on and High Point becomes more segregated every day.
Of the 400 white kids that have left in the last three years the redistricting of last year contributed to another 138. Just plain ol facts Alan. Not a pipedream. Its just the carnage of an ill conceived plan.
More are leaving during this year and more will definitely leave at the beginning of next. Its not over. Its an unpresedented DISASTER.
Allen, how do you get over this? Do you find this result acceptable? How as a journalist can you stand by and participate in this disaster by saying nothing? Dont you agree something needs to be done?
Posted on January 10, 2007 7:22 AM
Allen, the only question of any relevance here is Would You Have It Done To Your Own Child.
You've had 24 hrs. I mean just say "Yes, I would compromise my own child". We'll know it's nonsense, but you can say it. Nobody is going to hold you accountable. We know beeter. It would just be words.
It would be a nice terse, flip answer-like we've come to expect from good old AJ.
And the answer is...........
Posted on January 10, 2007 8:57 AM
Allen,
It's over??? You should read a newspaper every now and then.
The Choice Plan (which gave everyone their first choice EXCEPT the white kids in North High Point) has been replaced by the NO Choice Plan, called Map C3-star. This plan not only moves a large portion of white kids out of Southwest High School but also FORCES many black kids to attend a school where there can be NO parental involvement, where there are NO additional resources since they were bussed in, where tutoring is NOT required or even offered for them. Map C3-star is worse for the black kids than the Choice Plan. Let me guess, you think it has merit!?
WAKE UP, ALLEN!!!
Posted on January 10, 2007 9:04 AM
I see on the Guilford County School Website that MORE teachers are leaving Southwest Middle. They lost several great teachers last year, lost MORE at the start of this year...and now more. Why else would they be advertising for two 8th grade Science teachers, an 8th grade Math teacher and other various postitions??
It's funny, that's all I can call it now. Just plain funny that as the BOE buses more and more kids over, more and more teachers are leaving.
What on earth will they do with these overcrowded classrooms void of teachers?--all the while, Andrews has a student deficit.....
I'm embarrassed for this system. But more than that, I'm sickened that my child sits over at SWM..most likey with her Science teacher packing up today. Teachers should NOT be allowed to leave mid-year. So now I'm sure we get to look forward to a substitute-filled next several months. The assistant principal is ALREADY teaching a math class void of a teacher. What next, the Principal taking over a class? No wait, let me guess, the janitor?!!
Wake up BOE, High Point schools are going to hell in a handbasket. Andrews is on the shit-list again. WHEN WILL YOU COME REMEDY THIS JOKE OF A SYSTEM OVER HERE????
Posted on January 10, 2007 9:34 AM
Allen,,if you ever get tired of being an editorialist you could have a future as an offical "History Negator". You could travel thoroughout the world and just tell people what they're fighting about is "so over".
Hey Jews/ Palestinians; "get over it"
Hamas/ Fatah. "So yesterday guys. Hey, I'm Allen Johnson."
Hey Jews. "The holocaust is like so over, guys." What's that? Who am I? I'm Allen Johnson"
"To the Members of the Shi'ite and Sunnei militias. This is Allen Johnson, Columnist, partime movie critic, and now self appointed history negator under exclusive contract to the U.N.. You guys are history. This is like so over, man. So you've been fighting since 840A.D. but at last, I have come!
Allen, I'm quite sure this job is open. Go for it.
Posted on January 10, 2007 9:38 AM
Or Allen, how are you in the subject of Science?? Math?? Southwest Middle needs a few good teachers. Please help. You owe it to these kids that you encouraged be bused around. The teacher shortage/overcrowded conditions are a direct result of "theplan" that is so over....
There's a crisis in High Point Schools. Does anybody care?
Posted on January 10, 2007 9:52 AM
You know what SW Middle needs? More slavemasters.
Has anybody noticed that schools with a higher population of slavemasters and fewer slaves score much higher on tests, have less teacher turnover and more community support?
(By the way, it's OK for me to say this. It's my Constitutional right. It's Freedom of Speech. If you don't believe me, take it up with our school board members. I'm teaching my children to speak in this manner too. Just deal with it. I have no apologies to make)
Posted on January 10, 2007 10:24 AM
So Allen, I guess we are never going to get an answer on whether you would compromise you own child's education if forced on you by a politician who's motives you questioned.
I mean, we assuredly did get your abstract, kind of muddy, liberal, progressive, university professor editorialist view which was: that all public school students have just as much right to attend ANY public school as anyone else. (we assuredly believe this and it shouldn't be restricted by Dotfong) And that segregating people into all white and all black schools is bad (actually not even applicable in the NHP Dotfong since SW was 30% minority before Dotfong) and that no student should be stuck in a dead-end school that all the good teachers have left. We agree with you on all these points.
We realize we were asking you a personal parent to parent question. And we realize how and where you educate your child is a personal decision and we don't really have a right to ask it since you are on this blog as an editor and not a parent.
Like Gary Burnette said when he was asked by a reporter how he could pull his kids out of Andrews because of educational concerns and then turn and vote in support of forcing other people's kids there via Dotfong, he said it was a personal decision.
It seems everybody gets to exercise the "personal decsion clause", unless, of course, you've been selected for Dotfong.
Is this making sense?
Posted on January 10, 2007 5:17 PM
What is Dotfong?
Posted on January 10, 2007 6:01 PM
Deena has once again allowed her "Farrakhan,
Black Supremacist" side to shine through.
Like many in government,,her position on the school board allows her the ability to make MONEY her #1 reason for holding the job....
Education of Children,,,especially Poor Minority Children, ranks low on the priority list far behind the "Minority Contractor Scam" and the "Racial Healing Extortion Con"....
Following in the footsteps of Jackson, Sharpton, Earl and Skip,,,Deena seems to play upon her own people to gain her Riches,,,stepping over the "Carnage of their Education", on her way to the Bank....
As Darlene Garrett read off the tests comparisons of 2003 and now,,,it was quite evident that the Poor minority schools continue to flounder....
Where is the OUTRAGE?
After Deenas recent Slave, Slave master comments,
I Thank God that she lives in a Country that allows a person the right to Freedom of Speech,,
in many Muslim countries around the world she would have had her Tongue Cut Out.
Our School Board gave their Endorsement of Deenas comments at last nights board Meeting,,,,would they Stand behind a Student Spewing such Venom in a Classroom Discussion??????I Don't think so.
What about a Student wearing a Confederate Flag Shirt to School????
Is that Freedom of Speech???.
It is not a Wonder that our School System is in such a CLUSTER *%%$&^%,,,The majority of our School Board is afraid of their own shadows,,only to allow Grier to have free run at the Hen House.
Speaking of Grier,,,as Superintendent, you would think that it would be his Job to reprimand Deena for her Assinine comments, but not a word out of the Weasel,
It makes you wonder what kind of a Pact that Deena and Grier might have Going,,,,maybe a "You scratch my Back and I'll scratch yours" kinda thing,,,HMMMMMMM...
Enough said for now,,but I will return..........
Posted on January 10, 2007 6:04 PM
Dotfong, is the Guilford co. version of Nifong.
A white populist who won't hesitate to exploit racial issues and /or compromise people to curry electoral favor with the minority community or for other types of personal advantage.
If you are not from around here. You don't want to know more.
We love it here. Everything's fine.
The blogmaster said it's a dead horse, so that's good enough for us.
Posted on January 10, 2007 6:54 PM
It think Dotfong is that Skeet Club Savage guy going around the bend.
Get a life, guy.
Posted on January 10, 2007 7:01 PM
Who is Erik Huey? Are you serious? You obviously aren't up to speed with what is going on. He has made it clear way before these idiotic remarks were aired on Dec 19 2006 that he was running for school board and his platform on all issues via his website appear to be progressive. It is clear from Deena's comments that there needs to be a change on the board. Please tell me GIGI where in Spauldings remarks made any reference to superiority and inferiority? All Deena had to say was I apologize if I offended anyone however, I stand by what I said. She owes that much as an elected official to all GC citizens and tax-payers. And to hear other board members condone this last night at 11 p.m. sickens me.
Posted on January 10, 2007 9:35 PM
Allen, Forget the Choice Plan, what is your opinion about the increased segregation in High Point that you and your paper have supported? What about the lost 400 children? Do you have a position on this?
Posted on January 10, 2007 9:35 PM
Allen took his ball and went home. He don't want to play no more. Also, he told me to tell you all this: Do as I say, not as I do.
Posted on January 10, 2007 10:23 PM
Someone named gigi was looking for me in an earlier post, and yes, I got your guestbook entry and I wrote you an e-mail to which you didn't respond....well, here I am :) Deena has conviction and is consistent? Consistent with what? Crying racism? It's sickening. I know I'm going to have detractors to my campaign for school board but if you're going to come to me, come with a much stronger argument than that.
Posted on January 11, 2007 6:42 AM
Mr. Huey, you have shown more passion and compassion in the few weeks since you have announced you candidacy than most board members show during their entire term. I applaud the board members that really care: Dr. Routh, Anita Sharpe, Darlene (and sometimes Alan) and it seems the new members are very caring. For the rest of them, I wonder why they are on the board. I think it's a need for attention or something.
Thank you Mr. Huey for becoming involved. I'm a former graduate of Andrews High and now I wouldn't let my dog attend. Please stay involved and just ignore the Gigi's and Deena's of the world. Our kids need you.
Posted on January 11, 2007 8:31 AM
All of you are getting your panties in a bunch about Deena Hayes remarks on the schoolboard, slave /slavemasters etc. You are holding her to an unfair standard which is: you think she is on the BOA because she is interested in educating children in this county. Let's get real. If this was her mission she would have resigned a long time ago since education for ALL children in GC has deteriorated during her tenure on the board. Deena's mission, as everyone on the board and at the N&R knows, is to get paid. To get herself and and her backers paid.
The more outrageous you are. The more you shoot your mouth off, the more you will get paid, the more people will be willing to pay you to go away and be quiet. Deena knows this. She knows she holds the board hostage. People on the board will say nothing and the N&R will say nothing. Some of the boardmembers need her vote for their own scams (see Dot Kearns, history of), some, like Dot literally owe their election to votes her backers control.
In the meantime editors at the N&R will scratch their heads as to why we can't seem to accomplish what is accomplished in other counties. They can't seem to understand that saying nothing time and time again is the problem.
Take it easy on Deena. It's her job to get paid. She's good at it. Let's leave it at that.
As Allen Johnson would say. It's over guys.
Posted on January 11, 2007 9:13 AM
not a raider: you are the one(s) I really would like to talk to offline, you and other former Andrews alumni. Click on my name, which will take you to my website and send me an e-mail. Thanks for the kind words. Incidents like this (a la Deena) have made my campaign really take off.
