It's a sure sign of the painful puzzle in Iraq that the administration has greeted Saddam Hussein's execution in such muted tones.
Even more telling is the general public's subdued response.
Saddam is gone, but unrest, violence and civil war remain.
We have tangled a web of shifting objectives, misinformation and arrogance into a hole that gets deeper, and bloodier, by the day.

Allen,
What do you want George Bush to do, hold a pep rally on the front lawn celebrating Saddam's hanging?
Your post is disingenious at the same time that you run on the front page of the newspaper an article that mentions that Bush's lousy 20% approval rating won't be benefited by Saddam's execution. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. So, what exactly would you approve of Bush doing, other than be in muted tones??????
Your whole post doesn't make a lick of sense. What do you want a public hanging for everyone to gather and celebrate the death of the wicked man of the middle east???

Apparently no one (in the media or the Left) was listening back in 2001 when President Bush made one of the first speeches after we were attacked.
He said that this would be a long struggle and might even last past his administration/s.
Fighting terror on a worldwide level is long and arduous. We can't expect overnight results. Neither should we give up just because it's hard, takes a long time, or is a costly struggle. The consequences of surrender are too dismal to face. Would you expect firefighters putting out the blaze at your house to "give up" and go back to the station because it was too hard, or was taking too long? How about when a police officer is fighting to handcuff a suspect? If the fight's too hard should he give up and let the bad guy go free?
I submit that much of the "shifting objectives, misinformation and arrogance" is invented or mis-reported by the press and the Left in their attempt to use any tool to defeat our Republican president and his administration for their own power-grubbing purposes.
