Molly Ivins dies
Syndicated writer and best-selling author Molly Ivins, who for years delighted and angered local readers with Saturday columns in the News & Record, died Wednesday following a long battle with breast cancer.
Ivins, who famously referred to President Bush as "Shrub," died at her home at the age of 62.
Ivins' columns ran in the News & Record until the spring of last year. Some people cheered when she was dropped. Others were fightin' mad.
That's the thing about Molly -- however you felt about her you felt strongly.
She even found humor in her struggle against cancer.
"I'm sorry to say (cancer) can kill you, but it doesn't make you a better person," she told the San Antonio Express-News.

I have to admit that I was one of those who cheered when her column disappeared. Her columns were just filled with too much personal anger and hatred for another person for my taste. She could have made her commentary on the president without trying to belittle him for everything that he ever did.
Having said that, God rest her soul. I hope that she finds personal peace, and she's in a better place.

Her hate filled rhetoric won't be missed by many of us. I'm sorry she died, but I don't miss her writing.

Political satirists are always less-than-beloevd, often reviled in their lifetimes. Perhaps history will vindicate Ms. Ivins' ire and biting sarcasm, as it did Daumier and Goya.

To me, Molly Ivans was one of a kind in political commentary. I will miss her very, very much.

I'm a huge fan of ire and biting sarcasm, but Goya and Daumier had talent. So did H. L. Mencken. Other that reiterating that Bush was stupid and malevolent, Ivins just never had a point.
