Secondary miseducation
From the N&O this week: A guest speaker in a Raleigh high school class passes out pamphlets denouncing Islam, one of which warns girls not to marry a Muslim man.
"You may be excited that you found the 'tall, dark, and handsome man' you have been looking for," one pamphlet says, "but do not be fooled and become a victim of his religion, Islam, which has very oppressive rules regarding women' status and rights. Such marriages will never be out of trouble."

Obviously this person was generalizing about the Muslim religion.
Now if you are talking about radical, fundamental sects like Wahabi-isim,/ Taliban etc. then this lady is 100% correct. In fact, extreme fear of the sexual power of women is probably the basic driving belief of Muslim fundamentalism, which is why their beliefs are incompatible with the West and why they think the West is the great Satan-because the West has seemingly allowed "womens liberation" and birth control and in fact glorifies the sexual power of women, mainly to sell products in capitalist economies etc.
For instance, a Britney Spears or Beyonce' video viewed in say downtown London would no doubt evoke some interest on the part of pedestrians, mainly male. In South Yemen the same video would invoke a kind of terror on the part of many of the men.
Obvioulsy this is difficult for any Western man to understand.
They kind of think Britney Spears for instance is a kind of weapon that the West is using to destroy their culture and that's what the Imams are teaching the kids in those schools. This also explains the pre-occupation with virgins etc.
To counter this sexual power, fundamental Muslims go way the other way and keep women under the boot as much as possible-indoors or covered with veils etc. ie; the Taliban shooting women who would wear skirts etc.
This is also not unique to Islamic fundamentalists. Some Christian fundamentalist sects also practice the subjuation of women, although they stop short of shooting them etc.
The vast majority of Muslims are, thank God, not part of radical sects etc, and it looks like the woman in the article was generalizing, but one could see how somebody could go around, particulary if she had a bad personal experience, and caution other women.
