A meet-up? Face to face?

I don't know the protocol on these kinds of things, but I would be interested in hosting an informal meet-up with some of our regular blog commenters.

The idea came up before when some of us broached the idea of seeing a movie as a group ("V for Vendetta," I think) but I dropped the ball and didn't follow up.

I know bloggers hold in-person conferences, but is this kind of thing also done among blog commenters?

Would anyone show anyway?

Allen, I think you should have a blogger night at a Bats game. That way we could scan the crowd quickly for covert CWP or GCS operatives before we come and meet you on the party deck. There could be some kind of secret password etc.

Allen Johnson said:

I'm game (seriously).

eric said:

Um, do the Bats actually play here anymore? {;-)

Allen Johnson said:

Old habits do die hard. I think he means the Hornets, uh, Hoppers.

Skeet Club Savage said:

I do mean the Hoppers, sorry

Skeet Club Savage said:

See if Mr. Robinson will spring for libations and the buffet table featuring carved roast beef served by master carver-Dot Kearns and a dunking booth featuring Terry Grier-all proceeds going to charity, of course.

I think you could make it go.

Allen Johnson said:

Somehow I fear this little brainstorm is about to shrivel and dry up. Sigh.

Skeet Club Savage said:

Allen, au contraire. You can see exactly why such a thing as your suggestion is urgently needed.

The subjects remarked on in the above post would of course, by mutual consent, be declared off limits...Word.

I know I haven't been here much for a while, but if you decide to do something, I would love to participate.

I enjoyed meeting and talking with you, Allen, when you were part of the forum on the Danish cartoons, so I'm also game now. Besides, I could prove to those who declared I probably wasn't me that I am.

(sound of an existential question mark dangles in the air)

Allen Johnson said:

Thanks, Jim.
OK. I think we're on to something. So far I count two who would show. I feel like a preacher opening the doors to the church on a Sunday morning.
Is there another?

Dear Allen:

If there is an opportunity to purchase and consume alcohol I'm there. And I'd also attend the blog thing :)

Dave

Sounds interesting. Make it 4.

Allen,

When you have the details ironed out, post it here. I wouldn't request an RSVP.

Will boxing gloves be provided, or should we bring out own??

Truth said:

I will go if Grier provides the transportation.

Have you guys been to The Press in Southside? Nice bar. Good service. Had a work meeting there recently. They've got sofas ans chairs in one corner ... a good place to settle the world's problems. How does 5 p.m. on a Thursday work?

I've never heard of it. I generally don't go to bars, you see. But so long as they sell diet Coke, I'd be happy to go.

"How does 5 p.m. on a Thursday work?"

Couldn't do it this Thursday, but next would be cool, I believe.

brian444 said:

Schedule permitting, sign me up.

That will work.

Doug Johnson said:

I would have a long way to drive. How ever I would be there.

Skeet Club Savage said:

Five would be a little too early for me but if you're going to be there awhile would be okay.

Jim Langer said:

I have to set up for my night class at 6, but I could do 5.

Skeet Club Savage said:

Allen, is David Johnson the columnist from today any relation?

Do you know what he was trying to say about fear today in his column on school segregation?
I mean, if people's kids are getting moved from a good school to say the fourth worst-rated school in the state and from a school with a small amt of dicipline problems to one with three times the number of suspensions should they NOT have fear?

Now, if your speaking of unjustified fear that would be different.

I'm not sure what the point was.

Numbersgame said:

Savage,

Maybe he was talking about the desegregation of Dudley. After all, in order for Dudley to desegregate, some of those students will have to transfer to Grimsley and Page.

I think when he talked about fear from white parents he was talking about Grimsley and Page parents.

Of course, we all know that Dudley will never be desegregated - it all just sounds good on paper.

Allen Johnson said:

Please see my latest entry for more on the meet-up. How about March 13?

Truth said:

Allen,

I have spoken to Numbers and Skeet about inviting you for lunch one day. Skeet was a little apprehensive but Numbers was up for it. If you dont mind I would like to extend that invitation to you. Truth, Skeet, and Numbersgame sometime in the future. What do you think? Bury the hatchet so to speak.
