Still not making nice
In an editorial, The Charlotte Observer applauds the vindication of the Dixie Chicks, with five Grammys at Sunday night's ceremonies.
In a news story in the same issue, the Observer reports that it won't mean much, at least around there.
Local country radio stations still won't play 'em.

I don't doubt that the Dixie Chicks may hold genuine political views that run against those of GWB.
It is also equally apparent that the Dixie Chicks are rockers even though they started out in country. Rock music is largely rebellious so the anti-Bush stance is just good marketing.
Taking the Dixie Chicks seriously in forming one's own views on Iraq would sort of be the same as getting a greeter at Wal-Mart's opinion on the surgical procedure your neurosurgeon just told you you need to fix your brain aneurysm they found on your CAT scan last week. Kind of meaningless

At least some of the animosity against the Chicks stems from their putdown of country music and its fans. But I'm not sure many country stations would be playing them today even if they hadn't made those ill-advised remarks.

I saw excerpts of their acceptance speeches. They of course referred to their awards as a win for free speech. I ask for the umpteenth time...
Who exactly denied them free speech? They confuse the consequences of their rights with their rights. Drives me nuts.
